He's limping...

My lovely bloody Bobs has done something to his front paw, it looks quite swollen & he's limping on it. Whilst I was on the phone to the vet, he got out of the window, I was so scared for him but luckily managed to bribe him into the house with some wet food.

The vet advised me to keep him in over the weekend so I've had to close the window they use for coming in & out. I was going to keep his brother in too but Bobby has just been hissing at him so I've had to let him out. I'm going to be on cat porter duties all weekend now.

Wish me luck in keeping him in & entertained & I'm keeping everything crossed for Bobs being okay & not having really hurt himself.

1st pic from today & 2nd pic from the other week, it defo looks swollen.

My poor baby.

I should have added, if its not better by Monday, as per the vets advice, I'll be taking him in. That will be fun as he's not a fan of his carrier & loves a good old growl when you try & get him into it!

Could he have been stung? Any sign of a bite? TBH our vets do out of hours and I would get that looked at.

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 13:08

He wouldn't really let me get close enough to look earlier. I'm going to try again and see if I can see anything.
My vet closed at 1pm & it's onto the emergency cover now.

My cat came in with a limp last week. I waited 24 hours until I went to the vet.

She had pulled a muscle/tendon. After a few days of anti-inflammatories she is fine.

Can you have a good look at the paw and see if there's anything stuck in it or any sign of a bite or sting.

I would entice them in and keep an eye on it. I was told to keep my cat in as she was at greater risk from predators due to the injury.

The good news is. My vet bill was only £70. Which I thought wasn't bad.

My previous cat broke her leg and it had to be removed. That was not cheap!!

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 13:30

@uggmum, I'm glad your cat is better now and £70 isn't too bad at all.

I've just been up to him and he let me have a little look at it but when I touched the front of it he really hissed at me. He really doesn't like being messed with at the best of times so I'm going to keep him in all weekend, let him rest & it isn't better by Monday AM, I'll take him to the vets.

It would be a minimum of £150 for the emergency vet and I've just not got that amount of money 😕

Bugger. Would you be able to do a salt water wash twice a day?.

They pick their moments don’t they?.

CasuallyMasculine · 05/09/2020 13:34

My cat had this - she couldn’t put her foot down on the floor and she was off her food. It was an infected puncture wound (she loves a scrap) and it cost £200 to have it drained and stitched Shock

user1471543683 · 05/09/2020 13:37

My cat does this about 3/4 times a year. Comes in limping not putting any weight on paw etc. We leave it a couple of days and it gets better. We have a 6ft fence around our garden and I think it's climbing over that and landing awkwardly that does it.

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 13:41

@fluffycloudland77
They are buggers aren't they!!

@casuallymasculine, he's not off his food (yet)
But I really don't think he'll let me touch it to do anything to it. It's also another reason why I want to wait & take him to our own vet on Monday because he's so skitty and doesn't like being touched, I don't know how the vet would be able to look at him either.

When he went for his booster injections last year, I honestly have never heard anything like it in my life, he was wailing so loudly & they weren't even touching him. Proper drama queen!

If it was his brother, it would be fine cos he's not bothered, a right cocky bugger but Bobs is the sensitive/soft one.

user I'm the same, they actually use the bathroom window on the 1st floor as their cat flap so hopefully it's nothing super serious, you just can't help but worry though can you.

Thanks everyone for the support!! I'll keep an eye on him & keep everyone posted.

Pets at home vets are open Sunday, normal rates.

Wolfiefan · 05/09/2020 13:44

I wouldn’t want to risk leaving it a couple of days in case it’s an infection. But then I am cautious with my animals. If money is tight then you need insurance. Our old girl was costing us £65 a month on meds.

uggmum · 05/09/2020 13:45

He is super cute. I would try salt water if you can. Even if you can just dip it in rather than touch the paw.

Can he be bribed with Dreamies

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 13:57

wolfie isn't everyone cautious with their animals? I rang my vet straught away & am following their advice! Good shout on the insurance though, I'm going to check my policy now & see if he is covered.

ugg he is very cute but knows his own mind & if he doesn't want me touching him, there is nothing he can be bribed with.

I'm so stressed out! I spoke to the insurance helpline & had a video chat with the nurse, I've got to take him to the emergency vet, which is going i be £200 before we even start but that is what it is, I've spent the past hour trying to get him into his carrier & he will not go into in it. I've got treats, wet food & cat nip & he is having none of it.

He growls & hisses at me which really freaks me out, then I feel stupid cos he's my cat & I can't get him into it, he then picks up on my anxiety!

Argh! Any ideas? I'm going to leave him for a bit now, he's lay down sleeping but I really don't know how to get him into it!

JorisBonson · 05/09/2020 15:36

It looks like a bee sting to me OP - but I really am no vet.

My boy touches bees a lot (🙄) and gets that giant, cartoon character paw thing. It tends to go down after half a day or so.

Please do what you think is right and good luck. Can you get do a payment plan?

JorisBonson · 05/09/2020 15:36

*can your vet do a payment plan

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 15:45

Cheers Joris, I did manage to get a closer look at it & he's cut the pad, so he 100% needs to go the vets. I'll do a claim via the insurance, I just don't know how to get him into his carrier.
It doesn't help that they are not kept out so he knows he's going somewhere when it does come out!

So stressed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2020 15:46

Pets at home will be open tomorrow. If he was that poorly you’d be able to box him.

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 15:59

fluffy That's a really good point, my neighbour came in to help me and she said, even though his foot looks sore, he's eating & fighting us so he's okay really.

I'm just so worried about him but it's not going to do either of us any good, if I'm stressing out trying to get him into the box.

Thank you!

OP posts:
JorisBonson · 05/09/2020 16:17

Oh bless him! Can you put something delicious in the box to try to get him in?

I feel for you, I've got a big scar on my neck from a previous cat of mine who hated the box. And when he did get in he'd do a dirty protest.

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 16:36

joris, he's got wet food, that's a right treat, dreamies & cat nip! I'm probably going to leave him now today, then keep the box out so he can nip in a very the food, put more in, then hopefully I'll be able to get him in & take him in.
He's curled up in his hammock at the min so he's okay.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 05/09/2020 16:57

I shut feisty cat away before I get the box! One with a top opening can make it easier to get cat in. I also never try in a room with carpet as mine latch on!
Poor kitty. I hope he feels better soon.

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 17:19

Thanks everyone. I'll get him there somehow.
I'll let you know how we go!

OP posts:
StrawberryFizz26 · 05/09/2020 20:01

Managed to get him in his carrier & we're now waiting to be seen!!
