Cat names and tips for bringing cats home!

I am VERY excited Grin

I used to have cats, but haven’t had any for 8+ years now so feel like I’m starting all over again.

Will hopefully be bringing these two loves home, b&w is a girl, and black is a boy. I need names!

Also any tips? I was planning on popping them in my bedroom where I’ve got an en-suite for the litter trays, and letting them chill out for a couple of days before letting them roam the house.

Apparently they are super friendly and affectionate, but I’m sure will still be nervy for a while.

You can get a spray which is called Fellaway I think, which is supposed to relax them. The lady I got my kitty from gave me a blanket of his so I could take it home for whilst he was settling.

As for names, I've always liked cats with human names so I can't help much there, apart from to suggest maybe Gary or Brian? Grin

Ideally confine them in a room without people in it at first & introduce yourself/other family members (if there are any) in sessions of about 15mins or so where you don't initiate contact unless they do. They should have a sheltered area they can retreat to should they want to. Make sure the room has no places they could get stuck in - cats can get into surprisingly small gaps.

Go at their pace & gradually open up the rest of the house, making sure there is a route back to the first room until they are ok to go anywhere. Keep inside for at least 4-6weeks, the longer the better.

Use the same food & litter from where they came from at first then if you want to change, begin by mixing in a small bit of the new stuff & increase the amount gradually until fully changed over.

Make sure they are neutered & microchipped/your details are updated yo their microchip record.

Names: you try thinking along the lines of well-known male & female couples, not these but for example Jack & Jill, Anthony & Cleopatra, Victoria & Albert etc

Well my choice of cat names would be; Fentanyl, For a girl. Or Zomorph and Oramorph. Or Babymorph. My colleagues think I'm cruel. My cats kept their names!
Though now I have Cgeddar I think food names are hilarious for cats.

I’d just let the cats decide what they want to do. Might as well hit the ground running.

Thank you all!

Yes totally forgot about Feliway, will order some now.

I do quite like the let them crack on way, but will keep bedroom as a safe space if they do seem terrified.

They’re approx 9 months - brought in with their mum after being found on the side of the road Angry But apparently they’ve settled in easily at the rescue. Fingers crossed!

Still need names though.

Oh and microchipped/neutered/vaccinated by the lovely rescue so that is all covered.

I’ve just let my new kittens do their thing. It’s been fine.
I did try to kitten proof things (cables and gaps they could get stuck in) - the little buggers worked out how to get the spare mice out of the tin within one day. They are 17 weeks old. Yours could probably pick locks!
