Does your cats behaviour change when you’re ill?

Toots can be very loving but is usually pretty aloof like most cats.

Apart from when I’m sick. I’ve been ill since Wednesday and she has barely left my side.

Just keeps cuddling into me and purring away.

Yes.

Also lots of people on here have stories of cats 'looking after' them when they were pregnant.

MrsBobBlackadder · 28/08/2020 08:30

Mine do. I struggle with mental health issues, and when I'm having a bad day, one in particular will follow me around and cuddle up as much as possible.

I love them so much 😍

ShalomToYouJackie · 28/08/2020 08:39

Yes, definitely! I'm 4 weeks pregnant and for the last 3 days I've woken up with one of my cats sitting on me and he won't leave my side atm

ShalomToYouJackie · 28/08/2020 08:39

And when DPs depression is bad, our lovely girl cat sleeps next to him all night and sits on the sofa with him

Summerdayss21 · 28/08/2020 08:42

When I found out about a death in our family and was obviously distraught- our cat stayed by my side day and night for the first few days which it’d never done before.

tmh88 · 28/08/2020 08:43

Really sad to see everyone’s cats helps them when they’re unwell.. my cat is at his prime to attack my feet/arms/hands when I’m unwell and it’s not just a nibble he clings on and kicks with his back feet too Blush I think he senses my weakness he’s usually very loving though!Grin

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/08/2020 09:25

@tmh88

You have what it technically known as a 'proper cat'. Grin.

Soubriquet · 28/08/2020 11:58

Mine attacks me like that if I’m just tired and I’ve shut her out of the room.

She seems to take that personally and clamps around my ankles and really goes for it

I have a lovely scar on my arm when she last attacked me.

So I’m enjoying every minute of clingy puss until she turns back into a cat

Mine come and cuddle me if I'm ill. Also if I'm crying.

Anniecott · 28/08/2020 12:30

Yes, our family cat is very much into the men of the family and I barely get a look in, unless I'm ill, then he curls up into me, it's kinda sweet. X

My old boy (RIP Rafa) was amazing when I was going through my divorce, he'd head butt me and lick the tears off my face. And when I was moping around he'd catch my eye and do this dramatic fall to the floor, so hard it'd knock the breath out of his body Grin Everyone need a MH kitty 🐱

Bargebill19 · 28/08/2020 18:45

Yes, if I’m sick or brewing something - they sleep on me, as if trying to hasten the moment of my death!
At the moment, one kitten has a very strong attachment to my feet especially if I’m wearing wool slippers. I end up trying to walk with a small furry bundle attached to my foot whilst she attempts to chew through to my toes.

Marlus · 28/08/2020 22:21

Was just going to ask on here if cat can respond to moods! I was crying about something I was reading the other day and one of our kittens looked at, chirruped and stroked my face with his paw (no nails fortunately). I was very surprised but it also melted my heart. The other one is much more of a cat, I don’t think she’d notice.

TheHighestSardine · 28/08/2020 22:29

Two of mine tend to sleep on me when I'm ill (me on the sofa, or in bed if I let them), the other just watches me more closely.

I mostly think they're just trying to get in ahead of each other in the queue in case I die and they get to eat me.

My first cat Bobo knew when my mental health was bad and would keep me company. He was a major part of getting through a crisis. I was lost when he was very sadly hit by a car. Miss him.

My little lady Tinks is the same, she'll stay with me when I need her. When I have a migraine, she licks my head and snuggles up to it.

Big Maxi goes into protective mode when the children are ill and stands guard for hours,

Cats really are amazing Smile

Last year I went through a period of ill health. DH had taken the children to my mothers for a few weeks so I could recover, and while he was around, he was working.

One of my cats, who generally isnt a lap cat wouldnt leave my side. If I had a nap I could guarantee she would be right by my side as soon as I woke up. I had fallen over one day while DH had nipped to the shops and she literally stood guard over me waiting for him to return.

The other one just upped the ante with the hunting. I would have a delectation presented outside my back patio doors for my approval each morning. Get well presents cat style.

Usually they're a bunch of furry twats who embody the principle 'you dont own cats, you serve them'

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2020 22:24

I think Snorg has picked up
That I'm not great. I'm getting about more affection than normal and a lot of the quivery tail, she doesn't do that often. Cheddar hadn't noticed and just wants me off her spot on the sofa!
