Does anybody's cat pace up and down ALL THE TIME?

That is what my elderly cat (14 years +) does frequently, like a caged animal wanting to keep her step count up. It's exhausting to watch her! I think she does it when she's hoping to be fed. It also means that we're in danger of tripping over her, because she tends to follow us around, and stop near our feet. If she gets on to my lap, she doesn't stay there for long - after a minute she'll be pacing again.

Does anybody else's cat do this? It seems to be fairly new behaviour.

Does she howl for food a lot as well? My 14 year old Persian started constantly walking around, constantly at the food bowl and trying to get our attention.

She had blood tests as I felt she wasn't quite right and found a really quite advanced thryroid problem which had caused the symptoms and which is now controlled by medication.

Very common in elderly cats

She doesn't howl, no, just paces. She's had other medical problems which are being monitored.

My cat did this all the time when she had hyperthyroidism. Now she's had her radioactive iodine treatment she sleeps all day (she's 19) but still gets quite excited about food when I get home from work.

For some bizarre reason Snorg marches back and forward round my bed a few times before jumping on it. She sounds like a heard of elephants! She's always done it.
