Bereaved Cat

Last week, one of my poor moggies passed away after being hit by a car. We're all devastated and feeling very guilty about having let him roam around as much as he did and wishing we gave him more attention.

I've started to become concerned about his brother. For the first few days, my cat just seemed to wander around the house looking for his brother (and sleeping on the blanket they slept on together the night before he died), but now he just constantly looks sad. He's not off his food, but he just looks so lonely.

Does anyone have any stories about how their surviving cat got on, if they returned to their normal playful selves etc? Or just any advice on how I can maybe cheer him up?

I know exactly what you mean. Difficult to pinpoint but just not happy.

We had the same thing. We ended up getting a kitten to keep remaining cat company. They didn’t get on until the kitten was nearly one and then promptly also got run over Sad. We now have another six month old kitten and After an initial period, remaining cat is now almost back to her normal self as these two get on better.

Remaining cat is however not happy as we won’t let her out at night anymore. New cat will also not be let out at night.

I took both my cats with me when one was PTS. So knew knew exactly what had happened. She was a bit clingy for a day or so, but then blossomed as her sister was a very bossy, dominant diva! She's now very protective of new cat.

Who she gets on much better with.
