Introducing new kitten to our cat?

We have a 3 year old Bengal neutered male. He goes in and out as he pleases and is happy and good-natured at home. Neighbours say he is 'friends' with their cats??

DH really wants a kitten - he's found 2 rescues: a male and a female, both Abyssinians (not sure if that's relevant though). The vet nurse they are with is suggesting we take the male.

My questions are whether it's likely my cat will accept a kitten, should we get a male or a female, how do you introduce a new kitten to an existing cat at home?
Would it be better to just have both male and female kittens?
We have two teenage children. Both adore cats.
Thanks for any advice!

Never done it but I know you need to keep the new one separate for a bit so the old one can get accustomed to their scent.

Some tips here
