Frail cat is missing, presumed dead

My parent's cat hasn't been seen since yesterday morning. We thought she'd come in at sunset, but no. We've none of us slept well and it's nearly dawn so we can start searching for her. It's drizzled all night so she would have come in if she could.

It's very rural here, so trapped in a neighbour's shed is unlikely.

She's frail as she had a stroke at Christmas and since then has mostly spent her days sleeping on my parent's bed. Going outside voluntarily had become very rare.

Her brother cat has been miowing all night.

How far might she have wandered. It's nearly dawn, so I will start searching.

I hope you find her.

Pelleas · 15/08/2020 08:53

Oh, how awful. I hope you find her Flowers.

She may have hidden herself away outside - that's more likely than wandering a long distance if she's unwell - so I would focus on possible hiding places as a priority.

stayathomer · 15/08/2020 12:02

Ah god, everything crossed she wanders back inFlowers

Polyethyl · 15/08/2020 17:45

I found her, alive.
After a long search. She was very unaware, motionless. A seagull was watching her.
I'm glad I found her in time.
She's been asleep under the bed ever since, although she did eat well after I carried her home.
I suppose this is part of a long slow decline.

(Yes, she has been to the vets, often.)

Oh, thank goodness! It does sound as though she is in decline but you are giving her a comfortable and loved old age.

Vinorosso74 · 15/08/2020 18:26

Phew. Glad she's home poor old girl.
In her later life our old girl got herself stuck in a garden two doors down. We have a ground floor flat so can't see in their garden. Luckily, our neighbour let us know. The people were away and DP had to get ladders over to retrieve her.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 15/08/2020 19:16

Bless her, so glad you found her. It might be worth another vet visit though for a check-up, sometimes going off to isolate alone can be a sign they are very ill. I hope this isn't the case with your girl but best to check what's going on.

Igmum · 15/08/2020 19:18

So glad you found her ❤️

stayathomer · 17/08/2020 08:09

Hugs OP, glad she is safe

Gertie-cat died this morning.
She had her first stroke in Dec 2019 so she did well to get this far.
The vet warned it was almost the end yesterday.
She was a good cat. Here's a photo from one of her good days this year. The good days got fewer and fewer. I'm glad she's at rest. And very sad she's gone.

She's a beautiful girl and glad she's at peace Flowers sounds like she had a good life.

EL8888 · 15/06/2021 12:31

Bless her, sorry to hear this. Adorable picture, the cutest little face and ears xx

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/06/2021 12:32

You kept her going though, she looks a happy girl there.

JuneJustRains · 15/06/2021 12:32

What an elegant beauty. Was she Tonkinese?

Polyethyl · 15/06/2021 12:34

Siamese.
She was a very elegant beauty.
And so opinionated.

It’s awful isn’t it. Our dear old deaf blind boy disappeared for 48 hrs in April. We were all in bits, imagining what might have happened to him. and Ihave honestly never been so happy as when a neighbour found him. He only lived two weeks after that, but he died safe and comfortable surrounded by people that truly, truly loved him.

TheLongRider · 15/06/2021 12:35

Flowers Lovely cat, I'm sure you have many happy memories.

Temp023 · 15/06/2021 12:36

MrsCatE · 15/06/2021 22:54

Flowers you did all you possibly could to find her and ensure her last days were comfortable. I’m sure your parents were very grateful. X

Ellmau · 15/06/2021 23:50
