Permethrin

Has anyone experience of cats being affected by permethrin?

I used some insecticide a couple of days ago and straight after my cat walked through the doorway I'd been spraying. Last night I got home to find he had three big sores on his legs and back. He'd been scratching a bit the two nights before but I didn't think, he's a history of ear mites, I just thought it was that and cleaned them.

I don't know if it's caused chemical burns or if he's been scratching and licking there.

I've put him in an old babygro to stop him scratching and licking. He was sick once in the night and he's been eating grass this morning.

I have an appointment at the vet at 2 pm. I'll take the can of spray with me.

I'm just panicking because my daughter looked it up and said he needs shaving, bathing and still he might die Sad I can't do either, I'm on my own and there's no way he'll let me do that without someone to help. No one nearby to help. I've bathed it with cooled boiled water quite a few times though, where it's sore.

Sorry for the long post. Just wondered if anyone has experienced something similar.

How did you get on at the vets? I hope your boy is ok

Thank you. It turned out to be caused by a heat rash that he'd scratched and licked til it was very sore. I've got to bathe the areas with hibiscrub twice a day and then apply an ointment that is a fungacide and contains a steroid. He's wearing the cone of shame! And hating it.

It used to be an ingredient in Bob Martin and other 'off the shelf' flea treatments. It killed some of the cats that were treated with it. The reaction was within an hour or two and involved severe fitting. I'm glad he's OK. It's dangerous stuff.

There should be something on the tin that says extremely dangerous to cats.
