Any OTC flea treatment that still work?

Fuzzy cat has started scratching and I think it's fleas. Trying to avoid the vet because they're still contact free (you drop your pet off at the door, they take them in and treat then drop them back outside) and she's so nervous that I want to avoid the stress if possible.

Any OTC flea treatment that's worth trying?

I've just had a look and it contains the same ingredients as Advocate, which is only available on prescription. The only difference I can see is that Advocate contains a wormer.
