Going away leaving cat - advice

Going away for weekend and friend iz staying in house. The cat does not know this friend and we have not been away since having him. Cat is just over 1 yo.

So should I tell her to keep him in? He wont like that and will likely be noisy about it. He won't run away or anything will he?

I don't think he will!

I'm sorry to tell you that a cat does not really care who is in the house as long as they get fed!

That's my experience anyway - unless yours is a bit nervous I think he'll be fine.

HUCKMUCK · 06/08/2020 10:47

Sorry - reading that back makes me sound patronising - that wasn't my intention!

If your cat is fed regularly then it will be fine and best buddies with your friend by the end of the weekend.

I occasionally feed the neighbour's cat who clearly hates me but she always comes for her food right enough.

If he's anything like my cat, as soon as he makes the association with your friend and food, everything will be fine 😄
I wouldn't tell her to keep him in, if that's not his usual routine.

Your cat will probably make friends with pet sitter and be no bother at all.

Cats always show us up.

As long as the cat is in its own home that its familiar with then it should be fine. Mine stays home and my parents come over to look after her when I go away and she spend most of her time either sleeping or eating anyway, but she does love my dad Smile

My cat hates everyone but my husband and I. If we have visitors he buggers off for a few days, only coming in during the middle of the night to eat his food (access to cat flap). If we go on holiday our neighbour normally feeds him. She never once sees him in the house but he always comes back for his food at some point. However, our cat is very independent and we live in the countryside. He has many areas that he likes to lay his head on a nice day and will stay in the farmer's barn with the mice if he doesn't want to come home! Entirely depends on you rats personality but I think keeping him locked in a house with someone he doesn't know when he's used to his own space might not be best for him. He will still know where his food bowl is so I wouldn't worry too much.
