Cat Toys

I'm looking for suggestions as to toys with a puzzle element that DCat might like. Ideally not involving food, as she's a rescue and we've had some difficulties to work through so don't want to introduce a new element to a routine that's working.

A recent favourite toy has been a ball of silver foil that she'd happily bat away and then chase around, or play catch or hide-and-seek with me. At one point, it was under a plastic packaging box, which fascinated her but she's managed to work out how to tip that up to get the ball out so has lost interest now she's “solved“ it.

Any suggestions for toys or puzzles that are easy to make at home or not too expensive to purchase please?

Empty loo roll with a couple of catnip toys stuffed inside or a rattle type toy placed inside?

Aldi have a cardboard scratcher toy. Large box with holes in the top and sides with 2 balls with rattles which roll about inside. My cat loves it and it's only £3.99. We also stuffed some of her own toys in there for her to fish out.

Accidental game after a small ball got into a shoe but now one of our boys loves checking all the shoes to see if he can find any balls in them and getting them out. We just make sure to hide them regularly now.

Thank you all.

Have tried putting her ball in a toilet roll tube and she just looks like, “I know it's in there, you know it's in there, if you want it go and get it - I'll watch.” She might go for the whack-a-mole homemade game as it's a bit less predictable. Will also look up the Aldi toy.

She already loves shoes. Pre-lockdown, when I was going out to work every day, she'd often sneak a shoe (or a sock from my laundry basket) to sleep with during the day.

Tie together two shoelaces and drag it in front of her. She should pounce and run after it. It’s a great way to get cats running around and exercising.
