Kitten keeps going next door

Hi everyone

I dont think there is much I can do here but just thought I would ask for some advice.

I have an 8 month old kitten who has had all his vaccinations, he is being neutered next week and inserted with a microchip.

We had originally intended him to be an indoor cat but he has so much energy and escapes at any chance he gets. He was just staying in our back garden which was fine as he couldn't climb the fences and we never let him out if we were not home.

Anyway this week he has learned how to climb the fence and keeps going and sitting in next doors garden. He isnt causing any damage for now he just sits there.

My neighbour works away a lot and I dont think he has noticed the cat being in his garden yet. When we have noticed he is there I call him back over and he comes back to our house but I know this is not something I can do long term.

Is there anything I can do to stop him from doing this I dont want him getting the reputation as the annoying neighbourhood cat.

Thanks

The only thing you can realistically do is “cat proof” your garden so he can’t escape. Short of that, all cats will wander.

However, it’s really a bad idea to let him out before neutering and microchipping if you know he wanders.

Thanks so much for your reply.

We have stopped letting him out until he is neutered next week now we know that he can jump the fence. He escaped through an open window yesterday though so called him back and he returned to the house. He is an escape artist.

Il look into cat proofing our garden.

Will the neighbour be bothered? Mine snoozes in next doors garden and they love seeing him there Grin

That's actually something I didnt even think about haha. I just assumed that he wouldn't like him being in his garden. I wil have a word with him next time I see him and see what he says.

Worth asking. Mine is currently prancing about in their garden while the neighbours coo over how gorgeous he is Hmm

Unless you cat-proof your garden or keep the cat in, your cat will wander - it's what they do!

My neighbour's cat spends more time in my garden than he does in his own! I'm fine with that as he loves my two cats. Don't think there is much you can do to be honest. Cats are free spirits!
