New kitten just eaten a raisin

I have read that raisins (along with grapes, Sultanas etc) are toxic to cats. He’s just eaten one the kids dropped on the floor. He’s 4 months old.

Not registered with a vet yet but will be ASAP (today!). However, in the meantime does anyone have any experience or know what the risk would be? Does a cat have to eat tons to be in danger of poisoning?

I think it’s around £30 for a phone consult, refunded if your pet needs veterinary attention.

Surely one will be OK???? Keep an eye on him.

bluebluezoo · 20/07/2020 11:37

One is not ok in dogs. Don’t know about cats.

A quick google says it’s also a problem in cats. Issue is raisins cause kidney failure, and keeping in eye on him is no good as by the time you see symptoms the kidneys are already failing.

Update:
Phoned vet and he said one raisin would be ok. Just to keep an eye on him over next day or so and keep feeding him as much of his normal food as he will eat. Any changes in behaviour, appetite or toilet habits etc then to take him in straight away.

OP surely you know by now that any kitten/puppy threads MUST be accompanied by a photo of said furbaby?

Hope he/she is ok

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 20/07/2020 16:24

@MyGhastIsFlabbered Ok, if you insist....

(He seems ok so far - eating for England!)

I found my 8 year old girl eating raisins the other day and she was fine. I didn't realise cats like them. Lovely pussSmile

Wolfiefan · 20/07/2020 16:28

Oh he’s lovely. No more raisins naughty puss!!

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 20/07/2020 16:33

He is a cutie! Totally in love with him as are my 2 DDs.
Wow @Want2beme, so glad she’s ok. The vet said as it was just one he would be alright but anymore and they would have to see him and administer charcoal.
