Cat tree purchase regret

Got talked into buying a new cat tree for our two normal sized cats....clearly the measurements didn’t quite register in my head when ordering on line. Luckily they seem to have taken to it..

I bought Haribo a cat tree with platforms from Lidl last year when he was a 9 week old kitten. As he grew bigger and following him launching himself at it one too many times it snapped. We found that the poles were only made out of thick cardboard tubes wrapped in cord for scratching. As my partner took the rest of it down, Haribo launched himself at it again and as nothing was there he smacked banged himself into the patio doors!

MsSweary · 12/07/2020 18:21

Grin oh that's funny @TroysMammy

madcatladyforever · 12/07/2020 18:23

My cat tree and scratching post remain pristine, cat prefers stair carpet.

TicketToTheWrongFilm · 12/07/2020 18:25

I have a dim view of her partner anyway because dh sequels like a pig.

I have tried and failed to make sense of this in the context of the thread Grin

dementedpixie · 12/07/2020 18:26

It looks quite small to me. Mine is taller than me. I stand on a small stool to clap the cats

dementedpixie · 12/07/2020 18:33

They don't have much room in the top now!

😂 ha ha

It should say dh squeals like a pig ie he’s told dh the things he gets up to & he’s told me so he’s not worth re-homing a cat for.

Bargebill19 · 12/07/2020 19:29

The cat seems happy with it the tree the slave brought in.... so what’s the problem?

TicketToTheWrongFilm · 12/07/2020 19:33

@Fluffycloudland77 aha! Now I get it!

My friend rehomed her two massive adorable cats to move in with her boyfriend, who was allergic.

He dumped her fairly soon afterwards (I think it was a month or so later?). The cats had been rehomed via the breeder so that was the end of that.

Her ex also tried to get her to pay for the new kitchen they’d had installed at his house, claiming she’d forced him into it. Yes I laughed at that one Grin

TicketToTheWrongFilm · 12/07/2020 19:35

To get back to the point of the thread, I should say that DCat2 is not a fan of scratching posts, preferring to use the side of my favourite chair (the one nice piece of furniture I own) Sad

After going through several cheaper/less sturdy trees. I have in and got my Bengal this one last year. It’s huge and he loves it!

@dementedpixie so cute! I wish mine would cuddle up together.
@TicketToTheWrongFilm my first two cats, years ago, came to me as a result of someone’s husband doing the ‘it’s me or the cats’ thing about their cats, which he, incidentally ,had bought for his wife as a present a few years previously. The marriage completely fell apart shortly afterwards.
My current two came to me also because of a relationship breakdown. I was caught at a weak moment at work ( always being offered cats)I was meant to foster them for two weeks whilst their owners were ‘sorting themselves out’ and, of course, never came back for them.
My husband is the most soppiest one about our cats in our house.

Op, I think your cat tree looks nice, sizewise too.

Don't think any of the trees available fit in well with most livingroom decorations Grin.

I have bragged about this before, but we took the consequence and made our own (took a year before the spoilt brats wanted to use them 😂).

@SmokingGun that is luxurious indeed and it must be a relief that he uses it. Bengals are great.
I now feel a bit of an idiot posting about mine in comparison. Oh well.
Mumsnet is good for a reality check! And lovely photos of cats, of course

@giantangryrooster I am impressed. I should have done a bit more research because that’s a good idea.

Wow giantangryrooster, that is amazing. Are you thinking of going into the cat tree manufacturing business? Thinking about the comments about cat trees and decor, yours would be the Scandi model but others could be available, eg Shaker, 70s etc.

Ulrikaka · 13/07/2020 09:26

Mine is the same height as me ish (5'7). It took a lot of getting used to due to its size, but they love it and spend hours on or in it and do scratch that rather than the floor. We discounted one a similar size to yours as being too small as ours love to climb.

Allergictoironing · 13/07/2020 10:09

I was lucky - I had a "vacant" corner of the living room next to the windows, which the large tree fits perfectly into. Added bonus of being just the right distance for them to launch spectacular leaps onto the back of the sofa & back again. OK so anyone who looks through the living room door is faced by the tree, but everyone knows my house is run for the convenience of my cats Grin

giantangryrooster · 13/07/2020 10:36

nettie434 I am actually scandi 😂. We talked about a production, but naah. Feel free to copy, it's really not that hard, it's how you make it stable that is the hardest.

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 14/07/2020 11:33

@OohKittens

I needed a large one, my ragdoll boy is 28lbs and I've just got a norweigan forest kitten.
My DP has a Norwegian Forest Cat - She's got such long fur she looks like a woman from a 40s film wearing a mahoosive fur coat (IYSWIM).

Lucky lucky you.

OohKittens · 14/07/2020 13:10

@TheSecondMrsAshwell have you got a photo please Smile when they are fully grown they look amazing. The breed is fantastic this kitten is just the sweetest thing and he makes little chirping noises but rarely meows.

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 17/07/2020 08:40

I might have, but it's DP's photo, so I'll just check if he minds.....

Picking a man over a cat Shock!
