Cat flap training

I know that I'm his servant...but on average how long does it take a cat to learn how to use a cat flap? We've had a few successes after lots of coaxing....but sitting on my kitchen floor isn't what I envisaged. Do I need to be more patient? His food is right by it...he just needs to put his head through to get it. I've left food on the other side to tempt him but it's doing nothing.
How stubborn are cats?

we taped ours open for a wee while so they got used to going through it. One took a few weeks to master it but the other was a bit faster

I did the exact same post a year ago Grin I've just gone back and checked it

Mine took less than a week to go from looking at it to throwing themselves through like circus acrobats .

I didn't tape it open, I was worried about jiggering the door .

Mine had never used a catdoor before the came to live here . In Rescue they were indoors (but born in a garden)

So seeing their garden was a huge incentive over the 6 weeks or so they were confined .

They went out first through the French doors . Then got used to the cat door to go out , coming in for supper then going in/out the cat door .
The "Click" scared them a bit but they quickly sussed it .

He pushed the door and leaps out like a rabbit
She pushes the door a slides out like a viper .

Once they see they can be in control of their domain, there's no stopping them Grin
