How to prevent cat from peeing on carpet

Hello!

We're moving soon, and I was hoping for tips on preventing my old ginger Tom from peeing on the new carpets.

He's always liked behind the telly, but in our current place he picked a fair few spots as he had trouble settling (and previous owner had a dog).

I've got feliway and he'll have two litter trays. I thought about putting tea tree or lavender oil in random spots along the skirting, or possibly putting bowls of biscuits down in the rooms for a while (as apparently they don't pee where they eat).

Any help much appreciated!

Have you tried Cystease capsules mixed in his food?. It sorted mine out.

He hasn’t got a uti has he?.

MadameBat · 10/07/2020 22:08

Ooh I've never heard of those - I didn't suspect a UTI as he hasn't peed on the carpet in months, and in our current place it seemed to stem from moving in and being unsettled.

Thanks for the reply, I'll look into those!

Don't have carpets! Amtico, or similar LVT flooring, although pricey is utterly piss proof, hence worth every penny.

We’re slowly changing everything to hard floor here.

Grin I did want hard floors to be honest, but the sellers have kitted it all out with brand new carpets so I don't want to take them up!

Really hard to stop them once they start. We tried aluminium foil in the favourite wee spots which sort of worked because they pee’d on the foil for a while. Cats are meant to be deterred by the noise the foils makes I believe.. Feliway didn’t work for us and the foil throughout the house got on my nerves. In the end we just got rid of all the carpets.
It sounds like you are doing all you can.

Mine get excited when they hear noise from foil - straight away wide eyes and hunting mode Grin I make balls out of foil and they love it!

Thanks everyone, I've ordered some Cystease so fingers crossed!
