House on market, stressed cat!

I have two beautiful calico girls, seven years old. One of them is not an outgoing cat, she loves a cuddle from her family but mostly stays sleeping on the bed and hides from any visitors or commotion. We've just put our house on the market and have an offer accepted on the new place. It's been a hive of activity for a few weeks with cleaning and sorting, and various tradespeople coming in to do jobs. We're about to start viewings, we have a lot booked already so it's going to be like Piccadilly Circus for a few weeks. My poor baby is already stressed and wandering the house looking anxious and forlorn. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can help her during this busy period and then through the move itself? Thanks for your help!

I'd probably put mine into the cattery for a couple of days. Also worth considering doing that on moving day so they are out of the way.

I'd put a feliway plug in in your bedroom and keep people away from there as much as possible. And lots of affection in the evenings.

Yes the plug works

Mine have never been to the cattery. They stay at home together when we go away and I get someone in to feed them. Feliway is a great idea, thanks!

Does she have a favorite hiding place? Under the bed? In wardrobe?

My female cat is scared of her own shadow and would hide under the bed when someone knocks or rings the bell. Before we had viewings I have put some storage boxes to cover 3 sides under bed. She would hide there. She then decided that the safest place would be under duvet, so people would look at master bedroom and see a little mountain in the middle of the bed. And I would say - aaaaand this is one of my cats :)

Yes, she does like to be under the bed, making a little nest under there is a great idea! I've ordered some Feliway, that will be here tomorrow, so fingers crossed that will help too. Smile

Just an update from me: I ordered a little cave bed which has been roundly ignored, and some feliway diffusers, which have had a big impact - both kitties are super happy and chilled, even though we're halfway through a busy week of viewings. Thanks for your help!

@AltheaVestr1t

Great news :) Thank you for the update.

I see quite of few people recommending feeliway deffusers, I think I will get some for when we get visitors too

Good luck for the house sale!

I've never found Feliway to work but Zylkene is absolutely amazing.
Our cat starts to get anxious when things around the house start changing ready for moving. It makes a huge difference, he's usually an angry cat and doesn't like anyone bar me but zylkene completely chills him out. Our vets recommend it over feliway.
