Just posting for hand holding really, not that I deserve it. I'm the shittest human ever.

I only adopted him on Saturday and today he got out. I've searched everywhere in the garden and all around the surrounding roads. I've put out everything in the garden that might have his scent (his carrier, bedding, litter tray) and left out some heated chicken. But he ate just before he got out. :(

I don't know what else to do. I'm sitting here looking at pictures of him and crying like the useless idiot I am.

Our cat got out the first week we adopted her. She had climbed out of an upstairs window - god know when as it was during the night - but she was happily playing in the garden and was tempted back with dreamies, I think cats quickly lay down their scent by rubbing against everything and are very good at knowing their territory but it's awful those first few times they go out and you're convinced they've gone forever. It's so mild still even though it's soggy and my cat seems to be in hunting mode so wants to be out a lot whatever the weather

Been following, hope he comes in soon. We lost one of ours in the first week, turned out she had followed DH up the loft ladder without him realising and got shut in there, but it was a few hours till we twigged (footsteps on the bedroom ceiling, luckily the loft is boarded) and it was very stressful

@Itsjustabitofbanter

Biscuit
What was that for?

I do hope you get him in soon OP.

I'd just leave him to it he will come back when he wants. IME the more u chase them the more they disappear. One of mine disappeared for the whole day not long after I got him but he came back! I was v worried though.

HE'S HOME!!!

Soaking wet but seems fine. He's having a good old munch - I put out five bowls of the smelliest food I could find.

This thread has really helped me today, I can't thank you all enough. Windows and doors in this house are staying firmly closed for the next fortnight.

I’m so glad he is back! What a gorgeous boy. Oi you cheeky kitty!

Xmasfairy86 · 07/07/2020 22:32

So glad this thread was a happy ending one! I started reading and my heart was sinking... my cat wandered off last weekend for 4 nights. Was the WORST feeling ever.

So pleased he made the right choice 😂😂

ilovesooty · 07/07/2020 22:34

Oh lovely news. So glad he's home.

Floralnomad · 07/07/2020 22:36

Great news !

TW2013 · 07/07/2020 22:46

Great news, also now that he has his bearings when you do let him out he is probably less likely to get lost because he has checked out the neighbourhood and has realised that he has landed on his feet.

gotothecooler · 07/07/2020 23:18

Aww bless him, I'm pleased to see your update

Lindy2 · 07/07/2020 23:25

I'm so pleased he's home.

He's very clever to have remembered where to head home after such a short time with you. He must feel quite settled with you already which is lovely.

thesunwillout · 07/07/2020 23:36

I agree @Lindy2

A canny cat indeed!

QueenCT · 07/07/2020 23:39

OohKittens · 08/07/2020 09:40

So pleased he's back

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/07/2020 09:50

How is he today?

AnnaBanana333 · 08/07/2020 09:58

How is he today?

I feel like we've taken two steps back. Saturday and Sunday he hid under the bed until dark and only came out to eat. Monday he was out all day, confidently exploring the house and coming for strokes.

Today he's back under the bed. He did come out briefly for chicken but then slunk back under the bed when I tried to touch him.

But he's safe, and he'll get his confidence back again. That's all that matters.

Be prepared for him making another break for freedom. Now he's been out once he'll be harder to keep in when he decides it's time to go out again.
