Ragdolls

My lovely old man cat passed away a few weeks ago and I am now ready to have a new kitten.

I have fancied a ragdoll for a while so put my name on a breeders list and got an email today saying one kitten will be available in a few weeks. I know they are genuine, they have a webpage so are long term breeders and the kitten will be neutered, chipped, vaccinated and have papers.

Have any of you been owned by a ragdoll before? Are they massively affectionate and chilled out like I am hoping for? Are there any downsides of a ragdoll vs a standard moggy?

They are lush! We have kittens just coming up to a year and I would never be without a ragdoll now!
One is very cuddly and throws himself down in front of your feet to be fussed! The other one isn’t keen on being picked up but likes to lay close by and be stroked. They are v relaxed with the kids and the dogs.

Only downside is that they love company so much, I think they would pine if left. When we had moggies, we could go away and have someone pop in and feed them and I don’t think they’d cope well with that. We’d now have someone stay if we went away. Or at least be in the house for long periods.

But they are amazing cats!

I'm not sure if I will be getting this kitten as there is no neutering happening right now, the breeder can't get him done and there is no guarantee I can get him done before he starts spraying.

I’ve had my Ragdoll for a year and he’s amazing. He’s cuddly and affectionate, likes to lie on me, follows us around the house and is just so easy going. My teenage son cradles him like a baby and he just lies there happily getting carried around the house! We always say we think he got every Ragdoll trait there is! He still has his crazy typical cat moments where he zooms around the house leaving clumps of hair everywhere!!

Our ragdoll is both the most beautiful and the most stupid animal that I have ever met! I was taken aback on both counts having only had ordinary moggies previously.
However, we got her as a rescue so she might well be a product of kitten farming/bad breeding or even crossed with other colour-point cats with different temperaments, there is nothing to say that a "real" ragdoll with papers would be the same.

Our ragdoll is beautiful, the most laid-back cat I have ever had. He has never scratched or gone to bite, never hissed or snarled. He is lush. However, he is very picky. He never ever sits with me - not once. He will however jump up onto my nine year-old as soon as he sits down. He doesn't like being picked up either.
He's also very dopey (in a lovely way).

They say cats are not loyal but they definitely are, my 10 year old moggy is also devoted to my DD and ignores me unless he wants fed or to go outside.

I'm not taking this ragdoll because of the worry about not being able to neuter him before he starts spraying but have put my name down on a couple of waiting lists.
