Hi all, can anyone recommend a really good pair of claw clippers? My boy hates having his done at the best of times but the pair I got from pets at home are so blunt it takes hours and he won’t tolerate more than a few minutes at a time

Is it for a cat or a dog.

Mikki claw clippers are good. They do different sizes for cats and dogs. I work in a vets and we use them.

We used our own nail clippers for our cat and lived to tell the tale. She seemed to quite enjoy the fuss.

Why are you trimming a cats claws..?
Surely they are worn down enough by scratching?
I can’t imagine trimming a cats claws and coming away uninjured tbh

Scratching doesn't wear down the claws, just sharpens them. They get worn down by walking on rough surfaces etc, plus they "shed" an outer shell.

Indoor cats and low energy cats often don't wear the claws down, and some cats their claws grow faster than others. I need to trim Boycat's claws (especially the fronts) every few months, whereas Girlcat I do once a year if she looks like needing it. These are indoor only siblings.

If your cat is used to being handled & stroked, it's just another thing you do that they get used to. Boycat I used to have to do one claw a day, now I can do both front paws in one sitting. No violence from him, he just struggles to get away hen he's had enough.

@frostedviolets - what allergic said basically. My cat is pretty elderly now and simply isn’t out and about enough to wear his claws down.

We need to clip Gilbert's because he loves kneading my face at 3am! When they're cut i can actually sleep through it now!

I use half moon ones and cut their nails when they're asleep! I dont bother with their back claws.
