Getting male kit neutered tomorrow

What should I expect? Have been told to fast him from midnight which he won't be happy about in the morning. I think I'll probably have to fast his sis too as seems unfair to give her food and not him.

Is he likely to be out of action for a few days? Still waiting on a date to get the female done but at least they won't be able to mate.

When my male kitten was neutered I asked for a cone, just in case. He didn't need it as they glued him up not stitched.

@cosmo30, mine had one on for a week for an abscess on top of his head by his ear - he hated it & had only just stopped crashing into things by the time it came off!

It took him about 48 hours to work out how to lower it over his food dish so he could eat. Until then I had to hold a tiny plate under his nose Grin

But when he was neutered there was no cone Confused

You really don't need to keep a cone on him. I work in a vets, we never give male cats cones as there's really no need and it distresses them.

I did ring them to check as the wound had a couple of drops of blood, and they reiterated to keep the cone on. And said not to worry about the blood.

They didn't give a reason, it's Goddard's so a big chain, thought it must just be policy. But I need to take them back in 3 days as apparently the rescue home didn't give them the vaccine for leukemia which the vet recommends before going out. So am hoping we'll be able to take it off then.

I've been involved in the neutering of literally thousands of cats. None, neither male nor female, has ever had to wear a cone.

Advice from your vet is a little strange and pedantic.
None of my cats have had cones. Recent female kittens had body suits for minutes and freaked out.
Males heal very fast and it's a pretty minor op.

My vet has been neutering females via keyhole for years. Tiny hole you can fit a crochet hook in, no stitches, no cone, quick recovery.

I actually asked him how he did it- it was a new vet and for a minute I thought I might have been conned the hole was so tiny.

I can’t see why any vet would do it any other way (unless complications etc).
