Constantly hungry!

My 11 year old neutered boy has been on Royal Canin Satiety for the last 18 months or so as he need to lose 2kg. He's now done this and I have upped his food to the maintenance level. However he is nearly ALWAYS crying for food. I feed him morning and evening, but an hour after his meals he wants more. He is up to date with his worming. Should I change his food to something more suited to a hungry, 11 year old??

Dry or wet food? How much is he fed?

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/06/2020 09:58

Try more play and a puzzle feeder. Zooplus do flat ones where you pour the dry food onto it and they have to hook it out with their paws.

He's on Royal Canin Weight Satiety which is dry. He has 40g twice a day.

Puzzle feeder sounds good! I'll have a look

You get wet satiety pouches too which is why I asked. Maybe a food with more meat and fewer grains would make him feel fuller for longer

SilkyCat would like us to believe she is starving to death every single day despite firm Grin evidence to the contrary.

A puzzle feeder did not solve all our problems but it has provided a lot of peace and quiet.

Failing that when she is really annoying we just chuck her outside and close the door cruel

anna 😂😂 I do that quite often too!

Would splitting it into 3 smaller meals help? If you fed me twice a day I’d be chewing the sofa.

AnnaMagnani · 07/06/2020 15:51

Oh yes we did the smaller meals. Not sure whether it helped or just encouraged Silkycat to turn up 2 hours before dinner time 3 times a day instead of twice a day.

It doesn't help that she can see Retiredcat gets fed on demand. Life is so unfair.

Might be worth weighing him an a regular basis. Cats can develop hyperthyroidism, symptons will initially show a hungry cat but over time they'll lose weight as as they can't consume enough calories no matter how much they have.
