Adopting a cat during lockdown

I was wondering if anyone has successfully adopted a cat from a shelter during lockdown and if so, whether it was a lengthy process.

I have just had to have my beautiful cat put to sleep and there’s a cat shaped hole in my heart

I have no idea but sorry for your loss.

If you can wait until after the lockdown, the rescue centres will probably have quite a need to rehome pets.

Try registering your interest and hope for the best.

Sorry for your loss; they do leave a big hole.
Cats Protection are doing hands free adoption from some of their centres. The staff can talk you through the cats details and there are videos of the cats. The downside is you don't physically meet your cat before you adopt them. The adoption process is almost the same. It may take longer as you'll need to wait for the day the driver can deliver your cat to you. Obviously any questions/problems after adoption you can speak to the centre staff.
Lots of other charities are doing the same.

Just looked at my local one, and they don't have any. Others are closed, but this has some.

Many thanks for everyone’s kind messages. Unfortunately, my local cats protection isn’t doing hands free adoptions. I’ve registered my interest with the RSPCA though so fingers crossed.

I’m so sorry for your loss. We had our boy PST in late April, and just adopted yesterday. We found her on the website of a local sanctuary in Oxfordshire. The process was: express interest, video interview to meet the sanctuary woman and the cat, set date for the cat to be delivered to your house. On the day, a sanctuary volunteer brought her to our house and stayed for about an hour while the cat settled in. We chatted. So far so good!

I would ring individual ones and check. Lots I know have them but aren’t advertising adoption during lockdown but if you speak to them directly they might advise.

Oh gosh so sorry for your loss. My beautiful ginger fur baby died last November and we miss him always.

We've just adopted an amazing cat during lockdown...all done virtually with a phone interview and virtual tour of house. As an experienced cat owner you should be fine...one of our local rescues is doing virtual adoptions, hopefully you'll find one too.

We adopted a cat two weeks ago through a local adoption agency - had a video chat to check the house /ask questions and then contactless delivery to my doorstep, very easy! They’re settling in well so far Smile
