Tracking Dcat

Having recently lost our older cat DH bought a tracker for the younger one. Any guesses on how far he goes? If anyone is interested I'll post his map.

I’ll say 2 miles. Love his ears!.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/06/2020 08:54

I'd guess 10 minutes outside the house before he manages to 'lose' the tracker Grin.

Allergictoironing · 04/06/2020 08:55

I'd guess however far the DCat goes, the tracker will only go about 500m before he gets it off! Grin

His range will probably be dependent on the type of area you live in (country vs town) and the number of other local cats.

Allergictoironing · 04/06/2020 08:56

lol X-post with Grumpy!

itstrue · 04/06/2020 09:00

Looking forward to seeing!

CockCarousel · 04/06/2020 09:08

Is that an Abyssinian? He's lovely!

Thecatisboss · 04/06/2020 09:10

Another bet for him getting the tracker off in the first 10 minutes.

What a stunning cat! He looks very similar in colouring to our cat who's as Asian/Burmese cross.

WitchDancer · 04/06/2020 09:15

I'd love to get a tracker for DCat but she'd get it off in 20 seconds 🙄

Yes please to the map!

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 04/06/2020 09:34

Which one is it? I got a radio tracker for our cat so it doesn’t give a map. (He quite regularly goes out of range) but I don’t know how far he goes.

ArtikosAdventure · 04/06/2020 10:13

Oooooo it's quite good and he's all over the place! You can track the slider backwards to see where he was at any given moment. The heat map shows how long he spends in a given place. It's a tractive GPS. So far he's gone 1.1km from the house. He seems to go out and come back to the garden.

He crosses that road a lot doesn’t he?.

FruitPastillesaregood · 04/06/2020 10:15

How did you get the tracker? I want one! Your cat seems to go quite far. I think mine stays within the adjacent gardens to us, but I may be wrong!

ArtikosAdventure · 04/06/2020 12:03

This is the one we are using:

tractive.com/en/pd/gps-tracker-cat

I'm impressed so far. I like the geofence feature so it pings my phone if he goes too close to the A road. It's not a small device though. Dcat not so happy about the size but tough luck. If you're a data geek this gives you so much data on activity patterns by location/time of day etc.

Mustbetimeforachange · 04/06/2020 13:02

We had a Tracktive one before but it really was too big. This one looks a bit smaller. Does anyone know of any genuinely small ones that work?

WitchDancer · 04/06/2020 13:10

Is the blue spot your house? That's brilliant, I just wish there was a way to attach it to my DCat

IsThisNameTaken · 04/06/2020 13:18

My two cats both have these trackers - I'd take some of the outlying data with a pinch of salt ... on more than one occasion I've been alerted that they've left the virtual fence when they're sitting outside on the decking! Generally good though and nice to know they don't go too far.

Originalyellowbelly · 04/06/2020 13:35

I need one of these for my cat! He came to live with us 5 yrs ago, just after that we moved to a different part of the country where he happily settled. He was always very loving and although he liked to be outside he always came back at mealtimes and slept on our bed every night.

Recently he has changed, he wont come near us, only appears for food every couple of days then straight off again. He always used to greet us with a funny little purr and a head tilt, not now, it's like he hates us!

He is neutured, chipped and nothing at all has changed in our circumstances, I just want to know where he goes.

ArtikosAdventure · 04/06/2020 21:26

Paid for itself tonight! The app notified both DH and I that he'd breached the virtual fence and gone down to the A road where we lost our other cat. Cue much graceful scrambling over fences and fields to get to MH naughty cat! But I got him back. And the virtual fence has been tightened so I get a bit more of a head start next time. I've ordered ultrasonic cat scarers to place along the hedge near the A road to hopefully deter him.

I would of loved one for Ernie but no way he will wear collar

Nasty road as well, supposed to be 50 where we are but it;s never adhered to

IsThisNameTaken · 05/06/2020 14:57

@ArtikosAdventure well done for rescuing him. I regularly have to go and fetch one of mine when he strays too far - he always looks surprised when I turn up to get him!

ArtikosAdventure · 05/06/2020 15:16

Bastard cat lost the tracker...I can tell it's somewhere in the garden but I can't find it!

OP posts:
IsThisNameTaken · 05/06/2020 15:38

I've found it fairly accurate when I've put it on 'live' tracking and let it go for a few minutes to settle down to the correct location. Have you tried light and sound function from the app? Not sure what sound it makes as I've never had to use it!

WitchDancer · 05/06/2020 16:42

Oh dear, I hope you find it 😔

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 06/06/2020 12:20

Oh no! Hope you find it.

It’s a pain. Mine lost his first radio tracker and collar too. I know it’s in one of the back gardens of a particular row of houses but don’t know which one and with lockdown I feel a bit cheeky knocking on doors.

I’ve put my phone number on the new one as he’ll probably lose that too!

esmereldaP · 06/06/2020 16:18

Got it back thanks to the light and sound function. It's really very accurate. It pinned down where in the garden it was and then the sound led me to it.
