Flea treatment - pill form - recommendations please?

Hi there,
our cat is a rescue, she is affectionate but aloof, and not happy with being handled. She hates flea treatment that is applied by drops to the back of her neck, and everytime I have to put it on she disappears under the bed for a few days. We have just rebuilt our relationship and then I have to put in on again.
I have used Bob Martin Clear tablets which have worked well, as she wolfs them down when they're buried in cheese, but I can't actually understand when they're meant to be used. It looks like you only use them when fleas are seen, but I can't see how often you are meant to give them (I'm possibly missing something obvious from the instructions), or how long they last.
Can you recommend any other pill form flea treatments? Happy to pay for a good product. Thanks!

We get our flea treatments from the vets, in pill form.
