Would love advice from Ragdoll owners and people who have successfully introduced a cat/kitten to a dog... we are looking at getting a Ragdoll cat/kitten. We haven’t owned a cat for about 5 years, but have a 6 year old cavalier King Charles dog.
We have never had a “breed” cat but are considering a Ragdoll this time around instead of a rescue or moggy, because we understand Ragdolls are usually fairly tolerant and laid back, and we don’t want the cat to be scared of the dog. Also the kitten/cat will not be allowed outside (we are in Australia, lots of native wildlife and it might get eaten by a carpet snake if outside).
Out household is all older teens, some just starting or about to start uni so generally someone is at home and I’m working from home for at least the next five months. Dog is an outside dog who seems to spend most time inside ... she nosed my iPad away a few mins ago shoved herself on my lap and is snoring already.
So would a kitten or cat be better? We were thinking kitten as if we got an adult cat who has been allowed outside it might be unhappy to be confined indoors. Or has anyone managed to have a previously outdoor cat happy to be confined inside? It will have access to an outdoor run though, but small.
Any tips for introducing a kitten/cat and an adult dog? Our dog was a puppy when she first met our (now deceased cat) 6 years ago, that was different though as the cat was old and didn’t have much to do with an excitable puppy. The cat wasn’t friendly with humans anyway (rescue and always aloof). We want them to like each other and be companions, is that possible?
Those who have owned Ragdolls , what are Ragdolls generally like? I have read they are friendly and a little dog-like in that they like being with humans. Is that true? Do you think they’d cope ok with a dog?
