Cat food advice

Got our cat a week ago. He is currently fed Wet Whiskas which I understand is not the best.
Want to love to a grain free higher protein content food and use a mix of wet and dry so eventually when we are not on lockdown and spending more time out of the house we can leave food out rather than put fresh wet down all the time.

What are good brands/ones to avoid?

Thanks

Our tom loves Applaws. He has both the dry and wet Applaws and has done since he was a kitten. He only likes the tuna and makerel and refuses any other type.

Thanks I’ve been looking at applaws as seems high protein but reasonably priced. Seen some mixed reviews about acceptability though so was nervous although I presume that the cat will ultimately decide whether they like it or not!

There is another called James Wellbeloved that I was also musing over. It’s a bit cheaper but still grain free and relatively high meat content.

Anyone use this one?

I use dry Encore which is by the same manufacturer of Applaws but is slightly cheaper. I mix it with dry thrive food too. Last time I bought the dry stuff from Amazon. Mine turn their nose up at most 'good' wet food but will sometimes accept some of the fish ones. They eat wet sheba/gourmet food

Whatever you choose- as soon as you buy it in bulk, they will decide they do not like it.
Just so you are prepared.....!

Thanks all. I went and picked up some of the Wellbeloved stuff as it’s what they had in my local pets at home.

I got some dried and wet food. Just put down 10g of dried as a tester and he lapped it up. Will continue with his normal wet food for now and serve a little of the new dried alongside for a few days and then start to mix the wet foods to gradually swap him over. Does that sound ok?

Don’t ask us. Ask the cat :).
