How much water does your cat drink?

We previously had cats who rarely seemed to drink any water - either from a dish or glass or plant tray, nothing!

New cat will hop onto a table and help herself to our water glass at any opportunity. I now keep a glass of water by the bed for her, for drinks in the night (she sleeps on our bed or nearby basket). She also laps at puddles in the garden :/

I'm assuming this is all normal, with the new cat. Do your cats often drink water?

Both of mine drink a fair bit, probably around 150ml a day between them. Remember that cats were originally desert animals, so some are still pretty good at taking their moisture from their food.

Your previous cats probably drank more than you think from puddles & ponds?

Mine only drink out of a specific pint glass. About half a pint between them a day, more some days than others!

Mine drinks a bit, but only from a water bowl in the bedroom, well away from his food. I’ve just rearranged the bedroom and moved his bowl to a different spot and he didn’t seem to drink anything for a couple of days, but he had a good long drink last night so all’s good (I was getting a bit worried). I love it when he drinks his water for some weird reason, I just find it really sweet.

Two of ours will only drink from puddles, even in long dry spells like this. The other occasionally has a slurp from the (always present and fresh) water dish, but not enough to see a drop in level.

They eat wet food twice a day, I've taken to swilling out the foil packets with a bit of water and pouring that into their bowls with the food. That always gets licked up!

Ernie drinks a lot. He had a water fountain and a bowl upstairs

He also uses the waster fountain outside and any other water he sees

One of mine seems to drink loads, although they will both only drink from a massive mug on the bedroom floor.

Mine drinks more than my previous cats did. He likes to stick his paw in first, swirl it around and flick it over the floor before he drinks. He also dips his paw in the watering can in the bathroom and licks the water off.
