Ill kitty

My cat is 14 months and has spent the day sleeping, not eating or drinking, and is now breathing fast.

He spent a few hours with us outside yesterday on a lead. He ate some grass but not any of the other plants as far as I am aware.

He appeared to have killed spiders in the night.

Vets appointment not until tomorrow afternoon and im worried something will happen before then.

Any ideas?

Emergency vet

Toddlerteaplease · 27/04/2020 18:01

Yes. Emergency vet.

thecatneuterer · 27/04/2020 18:25

Yes, the fast breathing means you need an emergency vet.

IceniSky · 27/04/2020 19:17

Emergency vet just took him. Waiting in car park. He was dribble / white frothy sick. Not seen that before. I'm really worried.

You haven't had any lilies in the house?

Pelleas · 27/04/2020 19:43

Fingers crossed for him.

HappyHammy · 27/04/2020 19:43

Oh no poor kitkat. Hope the vet can help him. Flowers

ofwarren · 27/04/2020 19:44

I hope he is ok. Really worrying.

IceniSky · 27/04/2020 19:45

No lillies. First time im garden on lead. Vet given him injections and taking him back home to monitor.

ofwarren · 27/04/2020 19:47

Did they say what it could have been?

Veterinari · 27/04/2020 19:49

Has he urinated today?

Toddlerteaplease · 27/04/2020 20:20

It's horrible waiting in the car park. You just want to be with them.

IceniSky · 27/04/2020 20:24

He's now eating the tuna he refused earlier. Vet said temp of 40 and salvating, and heart rate high but not laboured. All else fine. Thinks something front first outing outside. Gave injection and said should pick up and he has.

Hopefully it was just something he picked up. Doesn't think virus. I'm to take back if goes down hill

He is still very much out of it. Spaced out. But is grooming.

Wishing your cat a full & speedy recovery. X

ofwarren · 28/04/2020 10:33

How is he today?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 28/04/2020 12:40

ofwarren - do I remember rightly that you were ill? If so, how are you?

ofwarren · 28/04/2020 12:43

Yes I was ill with suspected coronavirus. Me and one of my children.
I'm much better now but still can't sleep on my back as I wake up gasping for air.
My son recovered very quickly. He was breathless for a few days but mainly had a bad cough.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 28/04/2020 12:54

I am so glad that you are better!

IceniSky · 28/04/2020 14:55

I'm back at the vets. He is miserable and feels hot so following advise from vet last night.

Glad you are feeling almost better now Ofwarren. If you have one of those large square pillows they are great at night if you have a cough. If not, an extra pillow will be almost as good. It’s about keeping your head elevated. (Sorry if you know about this already). How are the kittens and their lovely mum?

nettie434 · 28/04/2020 15:36

Apologies IceniSky I posted before wishing you good luck at the vet. Hope your cat is ok. Do you think he ate something with weedkiller on?

IceniSky · 28/04/2020 16:25

They're doing bloods to check pancreas Incase of infection and kidneys for toxins. Still has temp and painful abdomen. Been in car for an hour waiting and now waiting for them to test. Really worried and cold. Meant to be working and spoke to manager today about struggling with increased work load since lock down.

IceniSky · 28/04/2020 16:40

Oh know. Google says it is serious if either of those.

Hope he's ok. If it's any help our lad was ill last summer-took him in as he had vomited, was super lethargic and clearly in pain when I picked him up. I honestly thought the worst as he was so poorly.
He had a high temperature,.bloods were ok except high white cell count meaning an infection. An ultrasound showed he had an inflamed pancreas and fluid on the abdomen. They treated him with fluids, pain relief and antibiotics. Three nights in hospital and he was ok to come home. It took him nearly a couple of weeks to be 100% but after a few days at home he was almost there.
No idea what caused it. The vet had one theory that he could have eaten something manky causing an infection and inflammatory response.
