Dcat is really really starting to annoy Dh.

She demands so much attention atm 😂 and won’t stop stretching on the sofa arm!! She has a huge scratching post. The sofa is ruined 😩😩

What she scratch post like? We need to figure out what’s so attractive about the sofa!.

Onmyright · 25/04/2020 10:24

Rub an orange peel on it anytime you eat an orange. Cats hate anything citrus smelling.

Mummypig2020 · 25/04/2020 10:35

She loves the scratch post, and will use it loads.

I will try the orange! X

Where is the scratch post?.

kimlo · 25/04/2020 10:59

mine do it for attention. They will look you in the eyes as the are doing it. It's one cat more than the other.

They have a cat tree that they are perfectly happy to use, but theres nothing quiet like the 5 seconds of fun of doing it to the chair.

I bought my cat a lovely scratching post. When he saw it he looked at me as if to say "in your dreams".

He refused to use it (now in the attic) and would prefer to use the sofa and armchair as scratching posts.

Tinfoil. I had to put tinfoil around the corners of mine. They hate it.

Potterspotter · 29/04/2020 16:14

Yes I bought this sticky plastic stuff on amazon - they hate sticky. The thing is, the tape looks unsightly in itself. The only solution we found is avoid fabrics that are nice to sink claws into...

TwistyHair · 29/04/2020 16:15

Can’t stop him. He does in on purpose when we’re looking. Likes being told off or something. Cats are weird

Ludo19 · 29/04/2020 16:17

A water pistol....a quick squirt when the cat isn't looking and that'll work too. Thats how you train kittens not to scratch furniture, climb curtains etc

Madcats · 29/04/2020 19:08

My little lady is definitely miffed that we aren't giving her our undivided attention. This is her way of grabbing our attention because she reckons that she needs 24/7 attention now that we are all at home together.

Whatever it was I said we were going to buy to try upthread works temporarily, but just encourages her to nip round to another part of the sofa!

LynetteScavo · 29/04/2020 19:17

I'm not sure what the answer is. My cat scratches the sofa when ever he wants even more food and we're not obliging.
Of course the answer would be not to feed him when he does it, but we're stupid and feed him to stop him scratching. The vet says he's overweight. Hmm I might try tin foil.

loubert89 · 04/05/2020 15:57

We tried a clear plastic cover from Amazon, they hate it and moved to an uncovered section of the sofa instead so we picked up a water bottle and gave him a small squirt whenever he did it, it was the only thing that seemed to work!

Ski37 · 04/05/2020 22:48

I bought the clear plastic stuff from amazon, it’s like sticky back plastic and called ‘stickypaws’ or something. I put it on all of the corners of the the furniture he used to scratch. It worked brilliantly for a month until he realised he could bypass the horrible sticky stuff by jumping directly into me and scratching at the cushions instead. Bloody cats!

Mammatino · 04/05/2020 22:52

Put mittens on him. I wish. Little sods. If you google anti cat scratch all sorts comes up, my two hate normal scratch posts but love those cardboard ones. They also love the carpet so we got some off cuts, they don’t like to scratch those but the kitten likes to roll himself up in them like cleopatra.

MashedSpud · 04/05/2020 22:56

A horizontal scratch pad with a sprinkle of catnip.

Don’t use the suggestion of a water pistol, it’s cruel.

violetbunny · 05/05/2020 07:42

Beats me. My sofa is a giant $4000 scratching post. Blush

We tried some Feliway anti scratching stuff but it didn't make much difference. I also put a scratching post against the particular corner of the sofa they scratch, and the little bastards reach around the scratching post to scratch the sofa Angry
