When do you think rehoming will start again?

We were about to adopt a cat from a local rehoming centre, then of course everything stopped and they all closed.

At what stage do you think such places will reopen? I'm not asking so much "when" as do you think they'll be in the first wave to reopen or more like a last wave once everything more settled? Or something in between?

Trying to manage my own expectations (as well as the kids'!)

I volunteer at a CP adoption centre and from any info I've received they honestly don't know. There is going to be a huge amount of animals needing homes-no neutering is being done so think there will be a hell of a lot of kittens alongside the adults who will need homes. I think that sadly this will have a large impact on animal welfare.
I think it will be mid wave to late mid wave (assuming your waves are same as my waves).
I also think centres will be cautious until they can obtain sufficient PPE and cleaning supplies to keep the animals safe (not Covid19 but the usual things) as last thing they will need is an outbreak of illness resulting in another temporary closure.

Thank you @Vinorosso74 - that's helpful. I hadn't appreciated the not-spaying issue.

CHAT are still rehoming. We are doing virtual home checks and delivering cats to people. I don't suppose you're in London?

TheEnormousCroc · 10/04/2020 21:17

@thecatneuterer I couldn't be further! Nearer Inverness. 🤣 But thank you.

@thecatneuterer how far do you deliver? (I realise this wording sounds so wrong in animal rehoming). Am asking as people on Nextdoor in North London are wondering about adopting cats. I know another smaller rescue in Enfield are doing virtual home visits too.

thecatneuterer · 10/04/2020 23:42

@Vinorosso74 I can't give you a definitive answer - but certainly many parts of north London are well within our reach. Also, of course, we will put ourselves out much more for someone who is interested in say black, timid, adolescents/adults than we would for someone who only wants super friendly, ginger, grey or tabby small kittens.

If the Enfield rescue can't help them then it would be worth them getting in touch (as long as they know they can't adopt single kittens).

Vinorosso74 · 11/04/2020 08:46

Thank you for that @thecatneuterer. I'll pass the info on.
Unfortunately the CP centre I'm at is shut completely as too many staff members are vulnerable and commute via public transport. Difficult times.

The Blue Cross locally is rehoming with virtual visits - my landlady has just adopted a cat from them. Unfortunately for various reasons (mainly allergies) she is going to have to take him back but I doubt he'll have any trouble finding a new home - he's delightful. Only wish I could rehome him myself.
