OTC Flea Treatment

My cat was due to get a renewal of her monthly flea treatment prescription (Advocate) but the vet just told me that they can't dispense it currently as it's not an emergency. Can anyone recommend the best OTC one I can buy either online or from Pets at Home?

Stronghold, you can buy it online.

I think you need a prescription for Stronghold too. As far as I am aware Advantage is the only 'proper' treatment you can buy without prescription.

As TNC says, Advantage is the only OTC one that works. You can buy Drontal for worming OTC too.

I may be wrong but I think you need a vet's prescription for Stronghold at the time of online checkout - you need to have a scanned copy and send as a .jpg file. If that is the case, can your vet email you a copy of a prescription?

You don't need a prescription for weaker doses of Frontline but to be fair it appears to be less potent that it once was.

Sorry I was getting mixed up with advantage.

Thanks all. I found Advocate online but it says I need a vets prescription so may give them a ring and see if they can email it to me.

Just quickly googled and Vet UK have Advantage in stock so I expect others would too. You don't need a prescription for Advantage and it is effective (unlike any other non-prescription flea treatment).
