How can I cheer up my cat?

He got in a fight last night and came out pretty badly - a cut face and base of tail. I’ve taken him to the vets who said he should be fine, cuts are clean and not too deep and just need me to keep an eye one them.

But he’s ever so sad. He’s sitting in a ball in the corner and face the wall. He won’t play with his toys, he’s barely touched his food. He will grudgingly come and sit on my lap but if try and stroke him he growls and runs away terrified.

Anything I should do? I’m trying to keep it quiet and confine him to a couple of rooms. He keeps crying if he realises I’ve left him though.

girliefriend he’s neutered, he just thinks he’s harder than he is. I think he learned a hard (but much needed) lesson on Friday night and will be better behaved from now on.

NastyOldBag he really does sound like ours who is neutered too! He will start a scrap with a lovely glossy black cat who is also neutered but twice his size. He stalks the unneutered ones (bloody irresponsible owners) and if they dare step on his fence gives them a slap-luckily he's not had any scraps with them.

vinorosso they’re daft creatures. He’s my first ever cat and I had no idea quite how much he’d consume my life, he’s just awesome.

Can you spot an unneutered cat just by looking at them? There’s a massive ginger cat that I often spot in my garden that’s the size of a Labrador (ish). I suspect he’s the culprit but no idea if he’s neutered or not. Do unneutered cats grow bigger?

@Fluffycloudland77 Oh no i'm so sorry to hear ☹️ are you ok?

TheoriginalLEM · 23/03/2020 05:23

Un-neutered cats will be chunked and have thick set face, older ones tend to develop a fat pad between their shoulders. Oh and they STINK.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/03/2020 07:13

@Oldestchild90s thank you. Not really. It’s only been 18 weeks though.

Vinorosso74 · 23/03/2020 07:14

They are daft creatures indeed!
You can see their balls if their tail isn't in the way. They get massive heads and look quite stocky.
For the sake of cat photos here are two examples of the big heads. These are now neutered.

@Fluffycloudland77 ☹️ i feel for you. Unfortunately last week i picked up a beautiful ginger kitty that had been hit and took him to the vets, still can't stop thinking about him. I was crying for days.. and he wasn't even mine! But i will never let my cats out at night now!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/03/2020 08:31

Cat balls are massive, you’d definitely spot them on a ginger lad.

Like two golf balls.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 23/03/2020 08:36

I never knew that about cats heads but it makes a lot of sense! There's an unneutered ginger Tom (belongs to a neighbour and it makes me 🤬) who likes hanging out with my neutered girl, he def has a wide set face!! He always looks like worse for wear as well, clearly gets in a lot of fights.

He seems to like my cat though and has never been aggressive towards her.

I'm guessing there will be an influx of kittens as vets start closing to routine ops like neutering 😕

EL8888 · 23/03/2020 08:43

He’s very handsome! I hope he’s feeling better

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/03/2020 09:52

Is the big head connected to the big balls? It is in a lot of men.

Fluffy Flowers I still think of you and your DH.

Vinorosso74 · 23/03/2020 11:18

YetAnotherSpartacus that really made me laugh.
