Am I allergic to my cat?!

We got DCat 7 weeks ago, and for the last 6 weeks or so I’ve had a cough, sore throat, and tiredness... these symptoms themselves aren’t too unusual, as I have young kids who are always harbouring bugs and keep me awake at night, but the cough and sore throat have been going on so long now that I’m wondering if it could actually be the cat. Anyone know if I can test whether I’m allergic?

He’s my first cat, I’ve had dogs before and no problems. Thanks

Have you tried taking antihistamines? I'm actually mildly allergic to cats, one of the reasons I got short haired, and they help me

I have had a cold like you describe since January! I wheezed for about a fortnight.

I am also slightly allergic to my cats (had them 5 months), I think, because I sniffed a lot less at 1/2 term when I was away.

I recently bought some sprays by Bio-Life. The cats aren't impressed at being rubbed down, but I think it might be helping.

Thanks both. I definitely think it’s the cat. Yesterday I had a horrendous sore throat after he’d been on my knee for an hour. Last night I shut him out of the bedroom (he wasn’t impressed!) and today he’s been out a lot, as have I, and my throat has been much better. Will give the antihistamines a go.
