Havelock is 1 next week. I’ve spent nearly £50 on toysbought him a couple of things for his birthday Blush.
I’ve never been this way with pets before, don’t get me wrong, I‘ve loved all my pets, but Havelock has a special place in my heart, and bed, again first pet I’ve even allowed in my bedroom, let alone my bed.
I know you all adore your cats, do you celebrate their birthday? Or have I actually gone cat mad?
Gratuitous cat picture attached.

Um no. My pets don't even get a Christmas present.

dennisdonut · 04/03/2020 00:48

50 quid Confused no I don’t Confused

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/03/2020 06:40

No, but if it makes you happy why not?.

oldestchild90s · 04/03/2020 06:48

I think it's s lovely idea, good on you 😻

violetbunny · 04/03/2020 07:33

Yep we just celebrated our two turning one year old last month 🙂

They got extra special cat treats, and a big fluffy sheepskin blanket to go at the end of the bed for them to sleep on. They are extremely spoiled Grin

Allergictoironing · 04/03/2020 08:39

Not birthdays, as nobody knows when they were born, not even "coming home" day, but they do get extra spoiled and pressies at XMas and on my birthday Grin

Shmithecat2 · 04/03/2020 08:52

No, I have 6 cats, have no idea when they were born, can only take a rough guess at what month. Tbh, with a couple of them, I couldn't tell you which year I got them. We found them all on the street as kittens. They are however all overindulged on a daily basis and obvs don't even know what a birthday is so I don't feel too bad.

Dancingfairydreams · 04/03/2020 08:55

I do!! You're not alone! Happy birthday for next week havelock!

fantasmasgoria1 · 04/03/2020 08:58

We don't make a massive fuss or anything but she will be 1 soon and she has a couple of larger new toys. She gets new toys etc often anyway.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/03/2020 09:13

No. They are cats and don't have any concept of birthdays. Shock

Lindy2 · 04/03/2020 09:18

Yes, mine gets a birthday present and Christmas present. She also gets a posh tin of cat food on her birthday and has a plate of turkey at Christmas.

I'm definitely not so generous as to spend £50 though. It's a fiver at the most. Grin

undercoveraessedai · 04/03/2020 09:22

Yes! I celebrate their birthday (a date in June I chose with the vet when they came to live with me, they're rescue sisters) and also Kittyversary, the day in November they came home 💙 normally mark both occasions with photos and treats and a new toy or three!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/03/2020 10:33

I give them extra treats on their adoption day. And mark that as their birthday.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats I bet I am not the only person whose first response to your reply was to imagine TC popping round to your house with a big ‘it’s my birthday today’ badge and a hopeful expression. And then looking disappointed.

My own view is that cats think every day should be treated as their birthday and would be puzzled why it would only be one day.

You'd so win that bet.

Poor TC and Basil, Sybil, Lenny and Karl. :(

If I had a cat they'd have birthday (or adoption day), Christmas and Easter Presents. I'm not sure about the amount spent though, it would depend on what they's really want and use.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/03/2020 11:50

Further thought - I can imagine TC doing this every day.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/03/2020 14:18

Worryingly I know that TC's birthday is 17 May.
I have never bought him a present either.

@nettie434
cats think every day should be treated as their birthday. This - they have us well trained Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/03/2020 20:56

I do an Instagram post for our cat’s birthday and her coming home days, and she gets extra treats, but honestly, she is spoilt enough as it is! (I left the electric blanket on for her all day today because she was sleeping on our bed.)

PRL73 · 04/03/2020 21:09

Oh I so would if the little bastard would appreciate it

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/03/2020 08:27

It's in my diary.

How old is TC?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/03/2020 08:42

Yes, and I have been known to spend more on Harry than DH! I don't know his actual birthday as he was a stray but his adoption day is 16th March so we celebrate then.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/03/2020 13:44

Spartacus - TC will be 7 this year.
