After months and month of searching and waiting, we have two beautiful kittens coming to join our new home! Dd and I are over the moon! We only found out today got to meet them this evening, they are just beautiful.

I've done lots of research as I've not had a pet of my own as an adult but I'd love some kitten advice from you seasoned cat owners

They're currently on wet and dry kitten food, think they're having Purina dry and either Felix or Whiskers wet. Are there any food recommendations that I should know about?

They had two litter trays in their pen at CPL but only seems to be using one which I assume is because they preferred the clay litter over wood pellets? I'll be providing two litter trays anyway but they seemed content with using one. I suspect that will change as they grow!

They're only 10 weeks so won't be going out for now but the house has plenty of space so they'll be able to make themselves at home.

So far we have a cat carrier, blankets, carpet scraps, water bowls and a cat bed. I'm just about to Amazon Prime additional food bowls, litter trays, grooming brush, scratch post and toys. Anything I'm missing?

Finally, in keeping with The Litter Tray etiquette, enjoy the pics! All black kitten is a boy, white paws kitten is a girl Smile

Awwww cuteness overload. Your life is about to change for the better. Just remember that you are no longer the boss in your own house. They are!

TroysMammy · 25/02/2020 20:57

Cute. Don't forget insurance for them.

stophuggingme · 25/02/2020 20:58

Gorgeous!
I have three cats and have had them all from 12 weeks

I used royal canin wet and dry kitten food then breed specific dry food and quality high meat wet food from adulthood
Regular worming
Clumping soft cat litter
A water fountain

Some high spots and snuggly cave beds are popular as are windows
Get them used to having their claws trimmed and their teeth ears and eyes checked by you from now it saves you a lot over the years
A cat scratching post and a cat tree

Microchipping if they are going outside
Insurance and spaying or neutering ASAP regardless of whether they are going outside to avoid spraying and going into season or heat

And enjoy!

Working and Flea treatment that should read

CognativeDissonance · 25/02/2020 21:05

Ah yes! I'd been thinking about a radiator bed for a potential potential cat, I'll add to the list 👌
Insurance is top priority for tomorrow morning as I need to sort house insurance too

Thanks @stophuggingme
CPL are giving me vouchers to have them neutered as soon as they're of age and I'm 90% sure they'll be microchipped before I take them home too. I can't fault my local branch, they've been amazing. Dd attended a session there during the half term and it was really good for her to learn about being a responsible pet owner.

I recognise the lovely pens at that centre!!!
Yes get insurance sorted asap. If you change food do it gradually or you may get upset tummies! The Purina and Whiskas/Felix isn't the best quality.
I've only ever had a single cat but I think it's best to have 2 trays and some say 1 per cat plus 1 extra.
At the actual adoption the CP staff will go through everything so anything you're unsure on ask them.
Our cat loves ping pong balls. Only downside is they go under the sofa......

stophuggingme · 25/02/2020 21:23

Oh yes my three have a litter tray each !

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/02/2020 21:35

You can get cashback on insurance, top cashback works for me. They are sooo cute.

I think clay litter is for adults, you can get kitten litter. Those wood pellets must be like standing on Lego bricks.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/02/2020 02:56

My non related cats happily share a treat. So
I'm very skeptics about the two litter tray thing!

TroysMammy · 26/02/2020 09:22

My kitten was microchipped by CP. Don't forget to change the details to yours as soon as you get them.

Chemenger · 26/02/2020 10:50

They will come with a month's free insurance.
