Cat Burglars !

I have a real quandary!! Moved into our new house in December with Theo Cat .. big old ginge and white 3 year old boy.
There was a normal cat flap and he soon settled . 2 doors down live 2 Havana Brown cats ... they came in , stole all the catnip toys and were getting up on kitchen counters which my cat doesn't . I bought a new cat flap which works on Theos microchip and thought problem solved ... NOPE !! It was ok for a few weeks but now they are getting back in .. I caught one of them in the kitchen and it stole the packet of dreamies . Theo is looking a bit fed up and sits by the cat flap like he's guarding it !! By total coincidence I was away last weekend and had a " kitty angel" come to feed and play with Theo .. she knows the owner of the Havana's and they did go back home with the dreamies !! She saw how they get in .. despite the locking microchip flap they are hooking up open with a claw somehow !!!! ... I'm baffled with how to keep them out now ... sorry for long post but has this ever happened to anyone else ?

I have a sureflap microchip cat flap. I have seen other cats try and use it but thankfully they have never broken through.

However, my cat can get out when it is in curfew mode.

Is there a particular time of Day or night they are coming in?

Contact the company, I think they’ve got a fix for clever cats who learn to hack the flap.

My Bengal learned how to open the auto feeder. You lift the lid with your claw and slide the tray out with your teeth. I started giving him two pouches for breakfast when I realised.

Sorry OP but this made me laugh, the thought of the devious pair breaking in and stealing poor Theo's Dreamies 😹

You should contact the Dreamies company and pitch the idea for their next advertising campaign, you could make a fortune!

@purrswhileheeats... it is funny .. reminds me of the book "Slinky Malinky " ... they even look like him !!!

Back when I had one of those microchip cat flaps I had a problem with the neighbors cat “tailgating” and rushing through it behind my cat. It opened for my one and the other cat pushed through along with mine.
Never found a way to prevent it happening, we just put up with him dropping in every few days until they moved house. I put him out whenever I found him (sometimes I woke up with him on the bed along with my cats).

Reminds me of when next doors cat appeared on our doorstep with a cooked chicken breast in his mouth, it was lunchtime on a nice sunny day and we think he must have pinched someones lunch. He looked very proud of him self!

I thought the burglar was tailgating.. but he's cleverer than that !! 😂😂.. he's a Havana Brown ... are they clever ? His name I have discovered is Marcel !!

My old cat used to open the catflap with his claws coming inside, so would have overcome any lick that us set to allow anybody out, but only specified cats in... luckily he didnt leave our garden.

New cat stops before his tail is quite through, so the flap never quite shuts, so fluffy brown cat down the road comes and goes.......

Its a shame you cant film it😄

Alicatz66 · 14/02/2020 20:25

@EachandEveryone .. I may get a little camera off amazon and have a go !!

Reminds me of the Scottish seagull nicking Doritos from the shop 😲😅 Does Slinky have a favourite flavour?

purrswhileheeats · 15/02/2020 12:22

Sorry, I meant Marcel Blush

Have you changed the batteries? Ours becomes open to all when the batteries are low.

Also -is it the one with the app? Could you add the Havana Browns microchips and then curfew them out, permanently?
