Cat has broken her leg

So, today my cat broke her front leg. We took her up the vets and they said she needs to stay in a crate so she doesn't go adventuring and make her injury worse basically, then we have to bring her back up on Monday to see how she is.
No matter what she will not settle in the crate, she will climb all the way up hang from the top, flips herself around, she basically goes mental and we don't know what we can do to calm her down!

Eventually she’ll wear herself out. How did the poor girl manage to break a leg?.

Yes, she will give up eventually. Just stick with it.

I don't know if you already have one but there are plug ins by a brand called feliway & they are supposed to be good for calming cats and reducing their stress, they are about £25 though which is a bit pricey for a plug in

Mine broke her back leg and i never did find out how. I never crated her in retrospect I shouldve but my flat is quite contained my vet didn't think I needed to. It was a horrible time though. I remember having to go with her to the vet twice weekly. Thank goodness she was insured it was nearly three grand.

Would you be able to confine her to one room? A crate feels a bit excessive. But then I guess it’s best to go with what the vet advised.

Oh it's awful, isn't it. You might need a different crate-one that she can't climb up. My boy snapped his femur clean away from his knee on his back leg (probably got his leg caught on something). We ended up using bits of cot and mdf to keep him confined for 7 weeks post-op (needed screws to hold the bones together). He was not impressed (massive understatement). They do eventually calm down a bit. Make sure you cover up one end to give her somewhere to hide. Food provided mine with a bit of distraction but there's v little you can do apart from repeating to yourself that you are being cruel to be kind. I also recommend gin.

Notstayingin, yeah I know but because of the way she done it and she's still so energetic with a cast on we're just worried she will make it worse or something...

Sebashocked, yeah we gave her food and stuff and we covered it up but she just didn't care!

My friend had to crate her kitten when she had a broken foot. She did calm down eventually. The cast was so unwieldily that it was safer to have her in the crate, as she was so wonky she'd have caused her self more damage.
