How to get cat off Felix?

Kitten (6mths) lost weight after her spay last month so was advised to feed her Felix to get her eating. She was on hills.

she loved Felix but literally over night she became hyper and crazy.
She’s piled the weight on too!
I went to buy her some more food last night and picked up james wellbeloved without thinking I only have pets at home and would rather buy like that than a big order online.

she won’t eat it. I mean she’s nibbled abit and that’s it. But she’s calmed down loads in the past two days already.

she has dry food which she’s been nibbling on.

what do I do? Do I swap again? Stick to Felix? I hated the smell of her poo on it, and it was sometimes runny!

Question: can I get my cat to eat a brand of food she's refusing?

Answer: you've got more chance of finding a unicorn.

This is a universally recognised truth. Sorry.

Oh, except if you buy a bulk pack of 100 sachets of Felix. She'll immediately start rejecting it. Won't make her eat the brand you want her to eat, though.

What do I do 😂😩 Do I buy more?

We are having the same issue! And I have 3 other cats as well (one same age and 2 that are 10) trying to find a food they all like is impossible!! One of the kittens went mad on Felix and basically same issue, very smelly and runny poo but she loved it. After researching it seems Felix is full of rubbish (abit like whiskas) etc. So I tried on more expensive higher meat content but again she's fussy!! In the end I've just tried her on Sheba (slightly higher meat content then Felix) and she's wolfed it down (the others aren't keen but they do like whiskas) she's only been on it a couple days so unsure yet how the poo situation will be but I think it might deffo be worth a try with Sheba and it seems similar price x

You have absolutely no chance of controlling what your cat will eat!

They're like the fussiest toddlers in the world.

Even if you buy what they like today, they'll turn their little noses up at it tomorrow Grin

Out of 4 not especially fussy cats, not one has agreed to eat James Wellbeloved.

Buy some decent kitten food from Zooplus.

AnotherEmma · 12/02/2020 18:33

Buy a selection of good quality (high meat content) kitten food from an independent pet shop or a garden centre with a good pet section. Buy different things in small quantities so you're not wasting it if cat rejects in. Then once you've found something cat deems acceptable, you can buy online (eg zoo plus) which will work out cheaper.

Who recommended Felix? Not a vet I hope?!

TheQueef · 12/02/2020 18:34

Agree.
Only way is to order 200pouches a month on repeat from Amazon.

Be glad it wasn't Miow Heads, I fell for that when old lady cat was ill.
Crack is cheaper.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/02/2020 18:46

Well she’s nibbled it so I’d carry on. Could she have gourmet?.

Redhorss · 12/02/2020 18:48

Buy which ever feed you want her to have and gradually wean her off felix.

Night one - full felix and a teeny bit of new food

Night two - reduce felix by a tiny amount, add teeny bit more new food

You get the process. Within 1-2 weeks she will be weaned off felix

Redhorss · 12/02/2020 18:51

Our cat has no choice - she gets what she gets. If she is hungry she will eat! And it works. She cherry picks her fave biscuits, leaves the rest but its all gone the next day.

P.s dry food and plenty of fresh water are better for cats

I ended up buying Felix as I was trying to wean mine off Whiskas! Such terrible farts...
Mine are currently on Nature's Menu and poo and farts are just about acceptable.
Cat no 3 will only eat fish flavoured food..DH accidentally bought the wrong food but it's going down well Grin

Maybe some nice gravy over the dried kibble?

EachandEveryone · 12/02/2020 20:02

Mine likes AGAIL i pick my battles honestly. They eat very good quality dry so i cant begrudge them half a sachet of felix. The supermarkets are rubbish really.
