Help with re-homing my cats

This is a heartbreaking decision but because of worsening allergies I'm having to think about re-homing my beloved pusscats. I really want to find them a loving home so please spread the word to see if anyone can help me? Arthur (neutered, ginger male) and Squeak (neutered tabby femail) are around 9 years old and are currently 'indoor' cats (ie they stay in the apartment and use a litter tray, they don't go outside at all). Arthur is extremely affectionate while Squeak is a bit shy and nervous, but also very affectionate once she gains confidence. I'd like to find a loving home where someone is home on a regular basis (they're fine to be left alone for a while obviously). They're not used to dogs but might adapt to a friendly one. They might also adapt to going outside in a garden that's very safe and away from a busy road. I really don't want to put them into a rehoming centre and would rather they went straight into their new home. I'm in Maidenhead, but will transport them anywhere within reason. If you know of anyone suitable and willing, please let me know?

I think you will find you will get some unfavourable comments for posting this on here . Mn is not the place to advertise the re-homing of pets . You will have no idea if they are going to a good home. An animal rescue will vet any new owner .

You could perhaps speak to a local rescue centre and see if you could keep them with you until a home was found.

Have you had them all these years and managed with your allergies so far? It seems a shame.

You need to go through a rehoming centre. Not advertise them online.

Tend to agree with rehoming via a centre. I can't recommend Battersea Old Windsor strongly enough, very clean, caring staff and my current 4 cats have come from them. It's also conveniently close to Maidenhead.

I’d go through a rescue so they don’t get used in dog fighting, and foster them yourself until they find a home.

I’m so sorry you have allergies though, I know how hard they are to live with.

Have you tried an air purifier? We have one in the kitchen and dh says his asthma is always better when it’s on.

Thanks for the good advice - yes I’ll definitely try a rehoming centre and will keep them with me until new home is found. Sadly allergies have really worsened in the last year

It’s the nature of allergies isn’t it eh?. Mine ramp up quicker now I’m older.

Dh was very, very lucky because although he’s allergic to our departed cat he got used to him after a few weeks. I always told him to be glad the cat wasn’t allergic to him .

Mine have got less bad. I’m lucky. I’m only allergic to one of two sisters.

The good news is that there always seems to be a demand for indoor only cats. As so many people live in flats, and not many cats are considered suitable for flats, indoor only cats that come onto the books of any rescue are normally homed very quickly.

I also agree with everyone above that rehoming through a rescue is best. Not only do they vet the potential adopters and have the experience to do so, most rescues will also offer lifetime back up so the cats can go back if there are any issues at all in the new home.
