Cat spayed today very distressed

Our cat was spayed today she is very distressed. Has quietened down now but is still in her crate/ basket. She has a cone.
Should we let her out or is it better to keep her calm in the travelling basket? Any advice appreciated

Try and keep her calm in the basket for as long as you can.
My Millie was spayed last Thursday and had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic. My mistake was letting her out in the living room where she ran under the sofa, got her cone off and licked her wound so it became infected.
The vet tells me a lot of cats are upset by the cone as it makes them feel vulnerable and they lash out.
M is in a bodysuit now and doing MUCH better but never again!

Hi, as soon as any female was home after spaying, I let them have free run of the house and took come off. Never had any problems with wounds. They were much more settled with the cone removed. Just keep a close eye on them.

Open it up but keep it open if she wishes to retreat

Hello, I was just wondering if it's standard to be given antibiotics when your cat is spayed? My cat has now developed an infection even though she has had her collar on and I have a big bill to pay to treat her.

My kittens were wired when they came home. Bouncing off the walls despite being a bit groggy. I think the vets have to give them something to bring them round.
Mine were in bodysuits but totally freaked out by them. The following day they were much calmer and slept pretty solidly all day.
If I were you I might keep your cat in the carrier for a little while, or shut her in somewhere safe and quiet for a couple of hours.

@Bluefargo can you speak to the vet to check that your cat has enough pain relief on board? That could be contributing to the distress.

I’ve had 4 cats spayed and they reacted differently but keep up the pain killer as directed.

Non of mine needed antibiotics.

Could be the painkillers. One of mine had Vetagesic (I think it's called) for an eye injury. Her behaviour was very odd. But was soon back to normal.

@notanotherusername16 antibiotics would not normally be prescribe after a standard cat spay. It is a routine surgery using lasting approx. 15 mins antibiotics would only be prescribed for abdominal surgery where there is a risk of peritonitis ( opening bowel) or for a prolonged surgery where the abdomen is open for more than 2hours (this would be rare).
