Waking us up!

It's like having a baby again! 😱

The cats are shut out of the bedrooms at night. But somewhere between 4 and 6am boy cat decides he's not happy with that. He scratches at the doors and carpet (we've had to tape the edge of carpet down for now so he doesn't make it worse) until we let him in. Then he scratches at the mirror for ages like he's trying to dig a hole through it. Or attacks our feet. We tried leaving our bedroom door open- they still sleep on the landing then he comes into annoy us in the early hours.

We leave toys out downstairs, he has his sister to play with. They have a good bowl of food late at night. We never get up and feed him until we have to get up for work so it's not like he's learned that bothering us gets him food.

I'm sure there's no solution, just hoping we are not alone?!

That's life as a cat slave.
4:30 is prime arsehole time.
Mine will wake me up to tell me I need to clean the litter box

Leroy does exactly that! It's the most irritating sound on the planet. You have my sympathy Snuff, but in a way I'm kind of relieved that Leroy's not the only weirdo iyswim.

I have one of those spray bottle thingies (came in a airline travel bag) which sprays a mist of water - I get Leroy with that when he's really doing my head in.

theSnuffster · 27/01/2020 17:55

It's very odd isn't it- he's always done it even at a kitten?!

We keep a can of deodorant next to the bed, he doesn't like the sound of the spray so if he's really annoying we just take the lid off the can and he legs it. (Just to be clear we have never sprayed deodorant at him!)

I've barely had an unbroken nights sleep since I got Cheddar. She is completely incapable of just snuggling up and going to sleep. She makes biscuits on my face and neck, then walks around a bit. When I'm fully awake she then decides to settle down. By which time. Magic also wants a cuddle. Fortunately she settles down straight away. Shutting them out doesn't work.

The Toddler household 😂.

We lock our kitten in the kitchen at night. He has a massive, comfy bed to sleep in and has unlimited access to food, water and litter box. I wake up at 5.30 and release him.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/01/2020 20:14

@YesItsMeIDontCare that is exactly right. Except the cats should be the other way round. It would be Cheddar doing the prodding. Magic is an angel!

TrainspottingWelsh · 27/01/2020 21:08

4am is prime annoy the human time.

I particularly appreciate it when they finally settle to sleep at 4.50 so I get 10 minutes to think about how warm, cosy and sleepy I am before I have to get up.

AlexaAmbidextra · 27/01/2020 21:37

Yes, yes, yes! Mine scratches not only the mirror but the tv screen, the windows, the kitchen appliances. Sits up on her haunches and scrabbles with both paws really fast. God knows what she’s hoping to achieve. 🙄

ClientListQueen · 27/01/2020 21:52

Mine bizarrely will howl and howl unless I shut him in the kitchen/living room (open plan)
If I do that, he's silent Confused

minipie · 27/01/2020 22:29

Mine is shut in the kitchen (open plan, she’s got two sofas to sleep on/attack) at night.

DecemberSnow · 27/01/2020 22:34

Ours has just started to do it.

It wants feeding and the radiator on and someone to talk to.... True....

Partner goes into kitchen, put the heater on, gives her a stroke and gives her some wet food, (she has dry food over night)
Then she curls back up on the chair and goes back to sleep

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2020 03:27

Posting at 3.24am. Thanks to Cheddar. Who's now curled up fast asleep, and Snorg is purring loudly! And I have to be up at 5.45. Thanks Cheds

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2020 03:29

Exhausted Cheddar!

sashh · 28/01/2020 03:39

OP

You are not a proper cat slave, start getting up at 4.00am to play with your master.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/01/2020 09:28

I used to put mine in the kitchen overnight with 3 beds, 2 hot water bottles etc but I feel awfully guilty about it now he’s gone.

4:30 is standard cat getting up time by the looks of it. Ours used to be curled up asleep by 9am.

Madcats · 28/01/2020 09:42

Yep 4:20am here. They are both curled up on their bed in the bathroom now - they dragged their bed in weeks ago.

slipperywhensparticus · 28/01/2020 09:47

Mine too! Except charlie I rarely hear a peep out of him he popped in last night lay next to me for a bit then left as quietly as he came

His BROTHERS stand ON me and stare dig under my arms and demand cuddles and apollo sings the song of his people at four bloody am he then watches the sun rise before he sleeps most the day

I used to poke my old cat if he woke me up as soon as he fell into a deep sleep I would poke him awake and play with him he left me alone after that
