Cat insurance help

I had to make a claim on my pet insurance earlier this year for my 10yo cat who was lame. All diagnostic stuff, nothing was found. The lameness went away after a course of metacam 🙄 which yes, the vet should’ve tried first.

I’ve just got my renewal through and it’s doubled in price to £65/month.

I can get insurance cheaper elsewhere and then chuck the difference into savings, but I’m a bit hesitant about “pre-existing conditions”. What if a similar issue occurs, or something diagnosable resulting in lameness? What would be covered under pre-existing conditions considering she has not had an actual diagnosis?

What would you do?

I can't remember but are you still able to get lifetime cover for cats at 10yo? If not I'd be reluctant to change. It could be an increase due to age. Who are you with?
Ours has increased slightly but as expected whether we'd claimed or not. Our 2yo ran up a vet bill of £2.5k in the summer.
It also depends where you live. I did a fake quote for ours later my parents and it was about £20 a month cheaper!!

At a certain age you are just stuck and can't swap. It goes up every year anyway.

On the other hand you could get more cats to have a multi-cat discount Smile

I think you need to ring the insurance company to clarify their position on it.

Your cats beautiful.

Mine increased from £52. To £75 last year. No change in the amount of claims. They had no explanation for such a huge hike.

We are with Tesco for this one.
Our other cat, who we have had for just less than a year (she’s 9) we insure with Animal Friends and only pay £12/month.
You’re right, lifetime cover is essential so I’ll see what’s around.
It might be that we just have to suck it up!
