Microchip cat flao

Could someone explain how they work? Both cats are microchipped and we have a cat flap which is permanently open as the small cat can't push it open at the moment. We had an unwanted intruder in the shape of the neighbours Tom cat at 3 this morning who was seen loudly of by small cat but worried that even when she has the hang of it he will still try to get in. Both ours are neutered and I have added the obligatory photo

When did you last change the batteries? Ours defaults to letting any bugger in when the batteries give out.

I don’t have one, just a normal one at the moment, was thinking of changing to one

We have our flap set to only allow our cat's chips in however next doors cat gets in. We set up a 'go pro' to see how he gets in and he literally rips it open with one paw, holds the other paw in it and then gets in. By doing this over 3 years, he broke one so it was permanently open and would let anyone in. We've just accepted he gets in now 🤦‍♀️
A bit annoying as they are expensive and don't live up to their promise

Ours is fab. Stops DCats being chased into the house by the gorgeous terror who lives next door. Does eat batteries.

I’ve used one when I had one cat who wasn’t allowed out, worked a treat in letting the other two come and go while keeping the other one indoors.

No unwanted visitors either.
