Soft, dry cat food?

Our two cats both suffer from periodontal disease but can't have treatment due to heart issues. They both seem happy enough but are so hungry all the time! They used to have a bowl of dry food topped up throughout the day to graze on and then 1 pouch of wet food each. Since their teeth issues they now struggle with the dry food as it hurts their gums so are just having wet food (3 pouches each a day) but still so hungry!
Can anyone recommend a soft, dry food which we can top them up with?!

Can't you moisten the dry food with warm water,that's what I used to do with my cat?

Do you need to top up with dry food? Can't you give them more wet food? Those pouches are small,they normally need more than 3 a day.

They won't eat wettened dry unfortunately... I just need something to fill them up more! They can eat a pouch and then start meowing for more straight away and the pouches they like are so expensive. They're topped up with ham / chicken etc too. I think they're just used to grazing at this set meal time malarkey isn't going down well!

My cat eats 400g a day easily which is roughly 4 pouches so maybe they need an extra pouch a day each ?

If you really want to serve dry food, it's best to crush it into tiny pieces. If they're eating wet food only, they need four pouches a day.

Thanks for the advice - thought that 3 was about right from what I'd read online but clearly I've been being stingy! I will up it to 4 and see how we go!

Give them what it says on the packet, it's usually 4+. My very slim cat can eat 5 some days.

I've known of cats with no teeth at all who loved dry food, they don't really chew it anyway unless it's very big pieces. Could you look for a dry that's really small bits? Others may have specific recommendations, the only one I know is intended for baby kittens and nursing mum cats

Well I popped in to the vets and they recommend Hills Science Plan ones as they're much smaller than the dry food they were on. They also have high calorie content for older cats. They've had them all weekend with just one pouch and the meowing has stopped!

Hills is a horrible food its just recommended by vets because they get commission

I've also heard, from cat sitters and other cat ladies, that Hill's is not great. I'm feeding my boys Applaws dry kitten food. The bits are pretty small and they like the taste. Might be worth a try.

Hills is horrible stuff,my cat took one look at it and refused to touch it. I think vets must be on commission to recommend it,it's vile stuff.

For small pieces, purr and miaow does dry food that's tiny. My toothless cat eats it happily

Have you tried mixing the meat through the biscuits to soften them? My old boy doesn't have bad teeth for his age but can't chew as well these days. He has kitten biscuits mixed in to his meat, not so much to bulk it out but because he's decided that's how he wishes to be served.

Try Gelert cat food. That's tiny pieces and has good ingredients.
Or buy cans, which work out cheaper than pouches
