What breed could my cat be?

This is just a bit of fun because I know no one can really tell.

My cat Krikkit came from Cats Protection early last year who had him down as a domestic medium hair (aka moggy). However at just over 2yo he appears to still be growing (4.7 kg now and not overweight as far as I can tell). He has also put on an excellent winter coat in the last few weeks.

This has led me, DP and the cat sitter to speculate that he might have a bit of something else in him (possibly norwegian forest cat).

What do you all think?

After saying how thick my cat was, I had to get MN TK delete the photo as I had left stuff on it Blush Here she is when she was little

@NorskSkogkatt Shock what a beauty! Krikk is a great hunter but not the most dignified climber I have ever seen (he climbs the garden trellis very weirdly - a bit like a small floofy human). I think some cats just don't totally get the hang of it. He also gallops along the wooden floor and in to walls fairly frequently.

@Hefzi - I think they have tufts of fur between their toes?

My cat was also very daft, and clumsy galloper - and definitely behind the door when brains were handed out (though a phenomenal hunter). She hated drizzle, but no issue with torrential rain (probably too daft to notice Grin) and used to sort of bound in the snow.

Regular DSH moggie is much cattier - doesn't get into spaces too small, remains generally aloof, doesn't send everything not nailed down flying... I wonder if it is some kind of forest cat thing, or if we all coincidentally have cats that look and behave similar?

I'm loving seeing all these beauties on here, anyway Smile

theoriginalmadambee · 12/01/2020 14:35

Our late Maine coon had tuffs on the ears, much fur on/under the paws (and between toes). And she loved water. Ear tuffs are normal for Maine Coons, but I don't think they are a requirement.

Yours surely looks Norwegian and a pretty one Smile.

(@Hefzi fanget in Norwegian means catch/caught Grin)

You can see her tuffs on picture.

Def some (or a lot of) norwegian forest cat in there!

NorskSkogkatt · 12/01/2020 14:46

This is my favourite thread ever Smile Yes, definitely tufty toes here, another set of whiskers for eyebrows and extremely tufty ears too!

I really want to say "and that's just me" Wink

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 12/01/2020 14:49

My two year old cat is 5kg but the vet tells me he's not Norwegian, just fat Grin

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2020 14:49

@Soubriquet, that is one fine cat.

Alwaysthesun · 12/01/2020 14:59

Yes OP I would definitely say your cat looks like a Norwegian Forest Cat cross. I have a NFCX and he looks very similar to yours ❤️.

FrederickSinclair · 12/01/2020 15:01

I have a big cat too that we rescued age 10 and I've always wondered what breeds he's a cross of. I think he's just a regular big old moggy though Grin

I would think a bit of Siberian is possible! The sprawl is also rather characteristic- see pic of my Siberian attached. I've never seen a cat spread itself quite like itSmile

Love the name - Hitchhikers Guide?

PS I meant the second pic where he looks as if he's about to bend his head right back towards his tail which is what mine does.

Also slightly outsized back legs, and that glorious floofy tail!

Diplobrat · 12/01/2020 16:11

@TheForgetfulCat yes! He's just a really nice guy who likes killing things....

Your kitty looks like he/she has burst!

NorskSkogkatt · 12/01/2020 16:22

@FrederickSinclair your cat looks a lot like mine!

Does anyone else's cat sleep in positions that look like they've just been plonked down anywhere or dropped from a height? Mine doesn't sleep like "normal" cats either all curled up or stretched out, she just sprawls out (see picture) Sometimes she falls off the bed in the night, despite not being anywhere near the edge

DH has just reminded me her name is "Norwegian Forest Gump Cat" Smile

Pointy ears with long ear fur and fluffy chest. My guess is Maine coon.

Basil's birth certificate also has DMH on it. His mum was a small black DSH - he weighs about 5.5kg. I suspect he's completely unconcerned about his ancestry.
OP - your cat is gorgeous. Moggies are best.

Forgot about the foot hair. This was about a month ago, now it is getting colder the foot hair is even longer.
She is one giant fluff ball, with as mentioned above some of the most immense whiskas.
No bad for a stray, her chip proved her true heritage, but her previous owners did not respond to phone, email or letter so she became mine.

What did posh arrogant boy make of it all @Lonecatwithkitten?.

FrederickSinclair · 12/01/2020 18:46

Ah yes he does Norsk! Except mine doesn't have the same spectacular tail Grin

TheForgetfulCat · 12/01/2020 20:44

@NorskSkogkatt totally ...

I thought it was a peculiarity of my beastie, and then found myself on a FB group with an entire thread of photos, all with Siberians modelling the 'dropped from a height' sleeping position.

This for example is his regular evening telly-watching position.

Beautiful cat wherever he is. I had a ragdoll, at least he was supposed to be who looked similar and always slept on his back like these.

GuppytheCat · 12/01/2020 21:27

What’s the term for more than one doppelgänger then? A trippelganger, perhaps? I’m fascinated by how similar the dark tails and head markings are.

Lonecatwithkitten · 12/01/2020 22:01

@Fluffycloudland77 he would like to be friends, but Miss Floof thinks all boys ( accept DP who she adores) are disgusting. She lives upstairs and he lives downstairs.
