How to introduce a new cat to existing cats

We have 2 cats at present, a mother and daughter. A work friend of my partner has to re-home her cat and has asked if we would be interested in adopting him. He is a similar age to our 2 and friendly by the sounds of him. We are going to meet him tomorrow. If this all goes ahead, are their any tips we need to bear in mind for introducing them all

I have been told that Feliway will help to relax everyone. Plus gradually introducing them

Introduce a blanket that the new cat sleeps on to your cats so they can get used to the smell.

Google the man Jackson Galaxy, follow his guides. He's an animal behaviourist specialising in cats for over 30 years. Also did the program "cat from hell" which some episodes did bits on introductions.

When we took in our second cat, she spent a while just in the spare bedroom with a baby gate across the door (she is middle aged and quite sedate so didn’t jump it). This enabled the cats to see/smell each other through the gate but they each had their own safe space. I used Feliway plug ins, and I regularly swapped round blankets so they could get used to the other’s scent. Plenty of hiding places and no rushing things. After a week or so we opened the gate and she started to venture out in her own time. Bit tense at first and a bit of hissing but settled down into an uneasy truce after a few weeks and now, nine months on, they’re actually pretty good friends although they won’t admit it.

I’d say temperament has a lot to do with success too. You need cats who have broadly similar personality types.

Be patient!
I've introduced kittens to my existing cat who is not very impressed...
Make sure you take it gradually and allow the cats to be able to retreat and have safe places they can go and eat undisturbed. I am currently shutting the kittens iin a room overnight so other cat can move around relaxed as she's a bit scared of them.
Progress is slow but I think we'll get there eventually.

Oh, separate litter trays and food/water bowls in a different place is important too.
