Cat died from shock. So upset.

It's been a properly shit year.

In one final two fingers up to us from 2019, I found one of cats miaowing loudly in the cellar last night.

She was lying on her side, leaking blood and poo from her bottom.

Rushed her to the vet who found her to be very cold and attended to that first. Trying to get her low body temperature and blood pressure up. She did a quick scan but couldn't find any significant bleeding.

And our lovely lady died this morning at 5am. Dcs all so upset.

The vet couldn't find injuries that could have caused her death per se and told us that shock was probably the cause. Maybe she was hit by a car.

I didn't know shock was such a huge factor for cats. 😞

Flowers Medical or circulatory shock is serious, as you sadly discovered, and can happen after many different medical insults/injuries. Sad Lots of people use the word shock for being a bit surprised or upset, but it is a specific medical term. Shock can happen to all mammalian species, not specific to cats.

So sorry. xx

I am so so sorry for your sad loss 😢 What a beautiful girl she was, such adorable eyes. Life can be pretty cruel and shit xx

GirlDownUnder · 31/12/2019 16:05

Aww she’s beautiful.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

Bulbousbob · 31/12/2019 16:06

I’m so sad for you and sorry that you’ve lost your little loved one. Sending the warmest wishes.

BadEyeBri · 31/12/2019 16:06

The vets don't mean shock like shock from a fright or scare, they mean physiological shock. This is were the body can no longer respond, or fails to respond or responds in an inappropriate way to a trauma or illness. It leads to body systems shutting down. Hypovolaemia (lack of adequate circulation) is one of the major types of shock we see in small patients. This would fit in with the blood loss you saw and the very low body temperature and blood pressure. I think trauma would be high on the list for your cat's presentation.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Tabbies are so beautiful. Take care x

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/12/2019 16:09

I'm so sorry.

Oddly, a few years ago one of my cats came home after 4 days, badly injured, we didn't take her to the vet's until the next morning, just kept her warm and spoon fed her water overnight.
The vet said that not taking her in probably saved her life, as she hates the vet's and the shock would have killed her.

ChristmassySpice · 31/12/2019 16:11

So sorry OP. What a beautiful girl.

Sincerely hope 2020 is kind to you Flowers

Cobblersandhogwash · 31/12/2019 16:16

Thank you for all your kind words and explanations.

I didn't know shock meant what it does. I thought it meant such distress that the animal is lost and unable to rally.

She was such a loving girl.

We miss her and her yelling at us for food.

Our other cats are all looking for her.

It's horrible when we lose one so suddenly. She was beautiful. I'm so very sorry

GirlDownUnder · 31/12/2019 16:21

We miss her and her yelling at us for food.

The things I miss (still) are the small things and probably the things I loved the most - I still look for the headbutts’ when I walk up the stairs, and it’s been years. They are still part of the family x

moglovesmincepies · 31/12/2019 16:22

I'm so sorry op Flowers

Okbutno · 31/12/2019 16:25

I'm so sorry for your loss. They are part of the family so I'm sure you are devastated. At least she was made comfortable in her final hours by you and the vet. Flowers

ImaHogg · 31/12/2019 16:29

So sorry for your awful loss Flowers I still miss all 4 of the cats I’ve lost along the years. My beautiful black cat Sammy went over 10 years ago but I still miss him laying on my belly every night, purring deeply and doing that kneading thing on my chest that cats do!

Livebythecoast · 31/12/2019 16:34

I'm so sorry OP. Not much to say, except my wee cat got knocked down years ago, outside our home and it was heartbreaking. So sorry x

Beautiful3 · 31/12/2019 17:03

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard getting over the death of a loved one. My cat passed away back in March. I cried for 2 weeks and hardly ate. It's only now that I can think of him without getting upset. Sending hugs Flowers
