House feels empty this morning

Yesterday afternoon we said goodbye to Mr Wu the Snowshoe. He had a brain tumour and in the end had virtually no mobility and was very definitely senile.

The house feels all wrong this morning. For the first time in 17 years we are petless and I don't like it.

Sorry about the loss of your cat. We were the same two years ago and very quickly decided we needed another cat - not as a replacement as each cat is unique but because we loved cats and wanted another to love.

MrsMozartMkII · 28/12/2019 10:11

I'm sorry. It's so hard.

MasakaBuzz · 28/12/2019 10:11

You have my sympathy.

I lost my 14 year old cat to cancer in October. I really missed her - I still do. RIP Buzz.

However the vacancy was filled by a 4 year old Black Bengal.

I am having to adjust to a behaviourally challenged Male v an elderly female. It’s a bit of a shock.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 28/12/2019 10:13

Flowers He looks such a characterful cat, I can imagine his loss will be strongly felt and your house won't be the same without him.

bubblesforlife · 28/12/2019 10:13

Sending you my sympathy Flowers
That’s so sad.

Keiki · 28/12/2019 10:15

So sorry.

Electrocute1980 · 28/12/2019 10:17

I'm so sorry Thanks

It's so hard to lose a pet. We are going to have to ring the vet today as our elderly dog has so many health problems (diabetic, blind and now has a tumour) and is starting to leave most of his food at breakfast/dinner which is very unlike him. I know it's time to let him go but it's so hard. My heart is breaking.

I’m sorry Flowers

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/12/2019 10:18

I’m so sorry, he’s a beautiful boy. It’s so hard to lose them at any age. Don’t feel you have to cope, something you love has gone & that hurts so deeply.

I’m 5 weeks 5 days without my Bengal boy. He was our little ray of sunshine & we aren’t happy now he’s gone.

Pascha · 28/12/2019 10:21

Oh yes I know all about behaviourally challenged though not from him. We had a lovely mardy ginger bugger with no respect for anyone or anything, especially the litter box Hmm.

Mr Wu was a talkative, happy cat who loved leg bumps and chirrips and tickles and tail rugs. Years ago he would disappear every morning over the fields to the canal and a nearby farm and always came bouncing back at dinnertime.

I think it won't be long before we're looking out for a pair of cats. We have a birthday party at home in a couple of weeks and after that we'll see.

DH said he'd be surprised if we didn't have cats again by Easter at latest. He misses him too.

I'm so sorry. It's heart breaking and yes the house does feel so very empty. I remember being on here when we lost our old girl back in May. A couple of people suggested gettinf another and at the time i just couldn't imagine it but we now have 2 new kittens and while ill never stop missing my old one, these 2 have made it a little easier.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 28/12/2019 10:33

A new pair of cats is a lovely idea. You can never replace a lost cat but you can fill the cat-shaped hole with new cats to love. When you feel ready, start looking and the right cats will soon find you!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2019 10:54

So sorry, they leave such a huge hole.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2019 10:56

I adopted Cheddar 10 days after Maos died. It wasn't planned to be so quick. But she was just the perfect cat for Magic.

Pascha · 28/12/2019 11:07

I've already been looking on cats protection and local rescue sites Blush. We have lots of children rampaging round the house in two weeks but after that, after that...

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 28/12/2019 11:13

Cats Protection will normally let you reserve your new cat if you have imminent events that wouldn't be suitable for introducing them at home. We found our last one (or he found us!) just before we were due to go away for a week, so we reserved him and collected him the day after we got home.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 28/12/2019 11:15
  • Sorry, I should say I'm not suggesting you should rush into new cats, OP - I just meant if you should happen to fall in love with any while you are looking.
Roselilly36 · 28/12/2019 11:17

Hand hold OP, it’s heartbreaking I know, I really miss my cat too 😢

Wolfiefan · 28/12/2019 11:18

I’m so very very sorry OP. We lost our old girl at 19. The house just felt empty. We were bereft.
But we had a holiday booked so we had to wait until after that.
Wishing you all the very best. I bet you do have kitties for Easter. Hoping to see pics!!
