How can I stop this cat!

Hi, a (presumably) local cat keeps jumping through my open kitchen window into my home. Looks well fed so don't believe to be a stray however can never get close enough to be sure as he scarpers back out out of the window as soon as I enter the room. To start with he just ate by cats food which my cat seemed to allow him to do.. annoying but not the end of the world, however the last couple of nights it has come in and fought with my dcat whilst he has been asleep in my kitchen. Was awoken at 3:00am this morning to the most horrendous racket and came into the kitchen to see intruder cat dive out of the window and my dcat cowering under the kitchen table with a bleeding tail wound and a load of his ripped out fur on the floor!

What can I do? I get the cats can go anywhere/are free roaming arguments but surely not to the extent that they enter your property and attack your innocent resident cat!

I don't want to resort to keeping my windows closed as enjoy the fresh air and why should I!

Well the only thing you can do is take measures to stop him getting in. So that will be either to keep your windows closed, or on draught lock, or to use mesh netting.

Think of it like this. This cat knows that you have food and he knows he can enter through your window. Your own cat is scared by him because he is more aggressive. The proof of that is he has injured your cat. Cat bites can be nasty. Take your own to see a vet. Is the cat a stray? Can you find out? If so, could you get him neutered at vet? You need to keep food out of reach and get a cat flap or at least close your window

Why do you have a window open through the night? Such a security risk surely?

Shut your window, problem solved.

Can you not have your window open just enough to allow fresh air in but not a cat?

We have indoor cats and I open my windows enough to let air in but not them out.

Put a screen over your window.

Tbh this is a 1+1 thing and take your cat to the vet!

If you keep your windows wide open while you're in bed..good luck explaining to your insurers why you were burgled also. Seriously, shut your windows and open one in your bedroom if you like fresh air. Christ.

You're lucky it's just a cat coming in and not a burglar if you keep your (presumably) ground floor windows open overnight...

Open it on a restrictor only if you must or get a screen for it. You can't stop an animal coming in if there's a food source and an open window.

It is a very small upper kitchen window on a restrictor no way a person could fit through can't see how the cat manages to be honest. My cat was taken to the vet and is now fine sleeps upstairs with me now.

Well that's also a solution!
